H.E.S. P5XLT

A few weeks ago I bought an HES tuned Novarossi P5XLT with silicone filled crank, Nova 17011 front bearing and bench break-in. I finally had a chance to finish the break-in yesterday and race it today and I finished 2nd in the A-main. I could not be happier with this engine!!! Thank you Monty!
  • Associated RC8T CE Truggy
  • Large outdoor track, fast and flowing with big jumps, but with a relatively short straight. Medium/High traction.
  • Werks 2013 pipe
  • Werks 4 shoe clutch with 1.0 springs and aluminum shoes all around.
  • Byrons 30% Race 3000 Gen 2 fuel
  • Werks #5 plug

The engine is still new, so I was running it pretty rich on the high needle. I had some bad luck in the qualifiers (not related to the engine), so I started 9th in the main.

The smooth, linear power band of the P5XLT made the truggy really easy to drive. The power was there whenever I need it and it was A LOT of low end power. I was able to hug corners much tighter than before, because I didn't need a big run up to make the jumps. I never thought an engine could make such a difference in lap times and consistency. I'm going to wait a little longer before I let it stretch it's legs to see how it is on the high end, but I have not doubt it will be awesome. Also, it was a 20 minute main and I pit at 7 and 14. Engine was coming off at 210-220. My pit man said there was still about 1/8 tank of fuel left at each stop. Of course, I'm running rich with a fuel hungry pipe. I'll post a follow-up report in a few weeks once I get a better feel for the top end and the fuel economy.

If your on the fence about getting one of these engines, DO IT! You will not be disappointed.

... now which H.E.S. engine for my buggy???? :D

You explained it really well. The P5 and especially the HT P5 just makes it easier to drive the line and get over tough sections of the track at the same time. At the end of the day I have faster and more consistent laptimes and can hit the lines I want without trying too hard. I like the HTp5 in buggy....

Monty, this is Mike M., did you receive that +4 for break-in? Just want to make sure you received it.

Thanks, Mike

I got a +4 BTT.. 3 litres old, It flames every fuel/pit stop sometimes in pit sometimes 1/4 lap out. Can someone tell me why? I checked all lines/tank all are ok. Its flames after refill when tank is close to empty. runs great up to the pit stop.
Any help would be great.. Cheers:confused:
