After doing some reading and talking with Monty last week, a Buku Komp is next on m list of things to purchase. The spring adjustment is a great idea but the Komp shoes are the golden ticket!
Started breaking in my plus 4 today (finally) after fighting with my strater box for a good while, turned out I just needed to swap the 12 volt lead battery for a 4s 5000 45c lipo, Other then shutting down once due to mechanical pinch, this motor is great. Ran 2 tanks back to back, going easy on the street, probably about 35% throttle max. At first the motor wanted to go up to 240* so I fattened the HSN and LSN about 2 hours each and the motor settled into the 220* mark for the first tank and then 210* on the second. Almost as if it freed up after one tank. It took me almost 17 minutes a tank to run it close to empty. I have a feeling this thing is going to be a screamer! :D Thanks again Monty. |

Before race day question
When I put that new p5 piston & sleeve in my engine I reused the con rod that had 3-4 gallons on it. It looked fine against the crank, but after breakin and 2 race days I checked it again and it has some slop.
The question is, can I race it one more race or should I bench it and replace the rod before I run it again? |
I can't wait to get my Nova BTT :)....Oh yeah...and the buku clutch!!! ;)

Tanks 3 and 4 were finished today...almost an hour of running time on the motor that I have done. This thing is super efficient. Still running in the 210* to 220* range. Towards the middle of the 4th tank I started rolling the throttle close to 75% and then backing off. The idle is staying consistent and I am getting good smoke, especially in the upper part of the throttle when I get the lsn out of the spray bar. Is tank 6 to early to start rolling to full throttle? When should I start to lean the HSN a little at a time? Its been a loooooong time since i broke in a motor.

if it is running good and consistent , leave it for the time being , if it is an absolute pig lean it down just a little at a time but i would suggest keepin it in that temp range for a bit ;) |
Thanks Monty
I guess the next magic question is when to start leaning it out, once it drops its nuts or after the 1000 - 1500 cc's? I would think it won't drop its nuts  for a long time if its not getting up into higher rpm's. I understand that everything is still seating under a load, but does't the conron need to gradually feel some stress, and being to fat would put to much stress on the conrod once I start rolling to full throttle. (sounds good in theory right?) I am thinking that I won't start rolling to full throttle, still a little fat, until tank 7 or 8 at this point. Going nice and easy is killing me, I want see this bad boy scream...but the best things come to those who wait. |
