Hey Monty what's your opinion on the best novarossi truggy racing engine? I've got a plus 4 and love it but like trying new things and maybe something with stronger bottom, top, smooth and can still get 10+ min?

My opinion is p5xlt , 7mm, 2084ss/41021 . Add 17011 front bearing , houston tuned and silicone filled crank and there will be smiles to be had fershur
Can't go wrong with this motor combination, you won't be dissapointed. Cade's has been great so far and tuning has been a breeze, just dont lose the front bearing that is shipped to you right Monty lol? Jon |

the stone cracks where it meets up to the plastic on the inside of the tank , its been addressed and i believe they are fixing it if it has not already been done :)
super rich first part of the tank until it gets a little airspace and then it will go from lean to rich to lean to rich depending on the angle of the car and fuel level in the tank , very frustrating im sure :( Paul |
Hi Houston - I'm looking to buy an engine/pipe combo for my MBX6T. What do you recommend will be the best overall performing engine for this truggy? I run on tracks around California, Revelation Raceway, Thunder Alley, and my club track is Central Valley Raceway. All seem to be about the same in size and layout, a few big jumps, semi-hard packed surfaces. My club track is about 32 seconds a lap. And I'm running a B5/2013 combo in my MBX6 and that's served me well so far but I'm looking into Novarossi for my next mill.
Also, this may have been asked before, but what are the benefits of getting a Houston engine? I realize bearings are changed out, I've read where the crank is siliconed, but without giving the standard response of "it makes it better", what will this do for me in terms of performance and longevity? Do your engines come broken in? In other words, why buy Houston and not an off-the-shelf Nova? I'm an engineer so don't spare me the technical jargon! I'll PM you when it comes time to thrown down some coin. Thanks! |

I'll PM you when it comes time to thrown down some coin. Thanks! The p5xlt/2084ss is easily comparable I feel the work I do to the p5xlt increases all characteristics the engine has from the factory and then some , most noticeably the top end of the engine and increased low end throttle response with the crank timing alterations and the case volume reductions and flow directing with the silicone filling . I feel the front bearing change drastically increases the consistancy of the engine by equalizing the crank case pressure and holding it at a more steady rate. The flow modifications on the sleeve that are made increase overall efficiency and depending on how wild the customer wants the engine to be (I prefer an engine to be driveable myself ;) ) I can perform even more ;) As a side note , I am not doing engines and giving advice to get rich , I am doing it to provide racers and those who need a little guidance some support and direction to get them going in to make their racing as easy as possible when it comes to nitro engines. But of course I can not do what I do for free :D Houston tuned is an engine modification service R2R is an engine run in service (done by special request now ;)) Silicone filled crank is a service to boost low end throttle response Engine bearing replacement is a service I provide for racers to get their engines back to proper running condition . Engine checkup is a service provided to racers to have their engine/s completely checked over and advise the customer of any and all parts suggested to be replaced or reconditioned . Hope this answers your queries , we are not supposed to perform sales on the rctech forums so I try not to do any promoting here ;) Happy motorin', Monty |

Thanks a bunch Monty, that really helps me out a lot. I would've sent my questions in a PM, but feel this is information everyone on the forum should know and I had a hard time finding it.
Why the p5xlt and not a 21-4 or the torro nero? Guys at my track run both and say they rip. Should I just throw a b5/2013 in the truggy as well? Thanks again Monty, I appreciate the help and direction. This sport/hobby is pretty daunting to get into and it helps to have guys like you willing to share some info and provide us with a great service. I'll be in touch. |
And actually if you run your p5xlt with a 2013 u will make every bit as much power as the b5 ;) that pipe is raunchy !! Not the best mileage pipe though :)

people might ask why H.E.S engines and why not stock??
first, am not sponsered by H.E.S and i live maybe 15000 miles from where Monty is. i wouldnt even recognize him on the street  i did alot of reading before i bought our engines last time and i decided to try HES engines because of the feedback i read. i contacted Monty and ordered 4 P5XLT, delivery time was great and had them way before our season, i normally run a plus 4 on my buggy but wanted to give Monty's P5 a try in buggy. break in method is monty's too (sheet included with the engines) and race tune was very easy to achieve compared to stock Novas (i run/tune alot of Novas). HES engines have great powerband from bottom to screaming top end run time is just crazy. race results: 5 races with Monty's P5 = 5 podiums and the National championship title. will i buy another stock nova?? Hell no while Monty is alive  do i trust Monty's engines?? Hell yeah as they are my first and only choice for the upcoming WC in Pattaya (Yes am racing in the WC) :D i know many will ask, who are you KWT-Nitro and why shall we listen to you!!! i would say am a very hardcore RC racer, i race all scales possible from nitro to electric and from 1/8 Truggy to 1/18 onroads, i do tons of reading before i start something and soon to be one of the best 100 drivers in the World  cheers Ali |
