Monty,

I have been having trouble with the low end of my FMS. I am running the OFNA 053 pipe and the odonnel 97t plug. There seems to be a delay upon takeoff where it seems like a lean bog on the bottom then bam, a big puff of smoke and a rocket ship through the rest of the power band.

I know its probably a tuning issue so I need some advice as I am not by any means a good engine tuner.

I have an extra LSN from a P5 which seems to be shorter and has a blunt tip rather than the pointed tip like the FMS. Would this theoretically make tuning a little easier for the tuning challenged?

Here are the pics of both for all to see.

r1harper 01-23-2010 02:27 PM

mine did that for a while till i figured out the clutch was engaging too early..later engaging clutch solved everything

dhopkins8 01-23-2010 02:47 PM

Yeah,

I thought that was it too. I was running 1.1 springs in my truggy and it was better but not by much.

I then switched it over to my buggy with the same setup and man it was even more noticeable for some reason.

r1harper 01-23-2010 05:02 PM

maybe a a leak somewhere....

i am pretty sure the lsn are not interchangeable but dont quote me on that

i will go to the engine room and check for sure though . if i were you i would try the carb from your p5 ;)

temps good?
front bearing good?
compression good?
fuel delivery system good? tank , fuel line , pressure fitting on pipe ?

then check for air leaks , the only place a nova usually leaks air from is the oring in the block that seals the bottom of the carb . this is the case about 99.9% where an airleak comes from on the nova engines .

try extra rich bottom ?

Just got the NOVA Plus 4. Before I tear off the cooling head, can anyone tell me if the buttom that is on the engine is the one that will take the Turbo plug? Thanks in advance. Later.

both our plus 4s came with standard buttons installed. when changing to the turbo ones, dont forget the head shims under the button.

cheers

Temps good 230ish
Front bearing is smooth
Still passes flop test
No leaks.

I put in the P5 carb and have only bench tuned it. The settings are very different so far. I am like 3 turns in on both top and bottom. Does that sound right. Any richer than that, fuel just start pouring out of the pipe.

I am going to try to run it and see what happens.

Thanks

Dan

three turns in ?

good base settings for the short needle carb are 3.75 turns from bottomed out on high speed needle and low speed needles , take restrictor out and close idle screw until youy just cant see any opening and then open from that point 1 and 1/8th to 1 and a 1/2 turns , about .7 to 1.0 mm .
