I would say yes it would respond very well to modding.. I've considered sending a new one to Maximo for mod work, but I get good fuel mileage now, and I would hate to lose and drivablilty, because these engines are nice and smooth now..

It will also depend on who is modding it and what they do to it..

Is the Discovery close to a Werks B5?

no not really....different bore, different stroke, different timing, different internal machining....however they are both 5 ports and made in the same factory....Stock vs stock the B5 is more aggressive....

Like Neal said, the B5 has a more aggressive power curve. Which in buggy makes it a bit harder to hold on to IMO..

I run the 5-port discovery in both truggy and buggy, and it has the power to propel both nicely, but a more aggresive bottom end would be nice in truggy, IE a modded version could be the ticket.. For me however in buggy I think a modded version would actully hurt me..

Both of my Discos are going strong.. one is nearing 5 gallons the other just at or over 2..

I'm guessing they rev'd those things to the moon to get the rod to snap..

jewn_beef 10-31-2011 08:40 PM

Well all three guys are sponsored drivers all motors were run at 250 or less for temps
Like I said just worried about mine but still like the motors just hoping they make it longer than 2 gals

..man some of the stuff I read in these forums! come on guys... :weird:

We run production stuff and out of the box engines, and we have NEVER had a rod problem. We are not kind to the engines, you know? Not only that, I haven't even seen one, or even heard of one, in all the engines I have seen and people I have talked to... you really have to work at it to break a rod in one of these engines.. ANY engine..

can you tell me the difference between the cody king edition engine and the neo 11 edition? besides the 5 port 3 port difference?

and wich engine combo would be my best choice?
i run the buggy class.

gonna use it in my mp9 tk2

typically the 3 port is enough engine, especially for a buggy.. there is no big secret the difference between the engines. The 3 port gets better mileage and has a little less power than a 5 port. The timing is also slightly different I'm sure, but the 5 port will give more bottom mid power.. running full noodle on top end, they both run strong..

+1 or did not break it in correctly.Conecting rods just dont break just because.Thats not just with orion but with most engines.

ScottyM 11-01-2011 01:35 PM

3 engines in one place does seem excessive also.. Bad tunes, poor fuel?

pitpop 11-01-2011 10:28 PM

excessive? it's ludicrous... you could count ALL the team Orion engines distributed in America that had a problem with a rod on one hand, and he has 3 of them, so that means over half of all the Team Orion engines that had rod issues belong to Jewn Beef's friends. Also, if they are all sponsored, they should of course come forward. Please have them email me because if they are team guys I'm sure I know them..

On another note, there are a few things that can destroy a rod. On of them is stripped spur gear, or loose engine, then grab the trigger. No rod can survive that... another is full noodle when the car is upside down..

You have to understand this same rod configuration has been used for generations in Sirio all the way from Kanai 1 thru 3, Werks, Extech, etc... just implying that there is some sort of problem is not logical..

Guys, I dont know the circumstances because I wasnt there, but I know Jewnbeef personally and he's not just some random newb. I havnt talked to him about it yet, but he has no reason to lie. I know he likes these engines alot and definitelly isnt the kind of d-bag that would start trouble on a website just for s***s and giggles.

BTW- My Tebo worlds is only at a gallon, but its been good so far.

pitpop 11-02-2011 07:35 PM

sorry, I didn't mean to get the thread on lock down.. but I read so many threads and this theme is common. "I have 12 friends and they all had the same problem... I like the stuff, but my friends had issues... etc. etc." This is destructive and will put doubt in people's minds about the stuff.

Everybody knows if you death rev an engine, the journal will pull out of the rod. I know for a fact that these engines are sound as a pound, and there is no possible way there is any rod issue as he implied in his post. The facts just weigh heavily against that. The Team Orion engines are made with the highest grade materials in one of the most highly regarded plants manufacturing the most durable engines on the market. There is absolutely no quality issues with the stuff.

I asked him to have them call me. What more can I do?

..on to your regularly scheduled programming.. :)

I so disappointed with my CRF .21. Not the special addition but the one Cody used at the worlds. I have never had this many difficulties trying to get a brand new engine tuned properly. Something is wrong with this thing. I noticed its leaking fuel from the glow plug area. I'm over this thing.
