Life of the Orion alpha motors

I was wondering if anyone knew about how many gallons on average you would get out of a Orion alpha engine.

What is the difference between the 2015 race edition and the factory team edition?

Hey guys. I have a couple of the older Orion MTE motors. Does anyone out there have any experience with this motor. Seems like I see a lot of people selling them and buying something else. How do they compare to the newest orion motors. I know this motor was a power house motor at 2.9 hp.

One more thing..this motor I'm running now is the second Orion MTE and I had. Both motors seem to run on the cold side like 180-190..sometimes even colder, like 150..when I was breaking in the motor, I had to keep a heat gun the motor the whole time...if I lean to 210 or 220 I'm way too lean, at least it sounds too lean on the track. I don't seem to get a lot of smoke either on the track. So, I can't tune by temp or smoke..all I have to tune with is sound.

I read somewhere where a guy tuned his and added a 10mm head shim..seems to me that would make it run even a colder...I'm thinking about removing at least one of the copper shims. There's a 20mm and a 15mm...so I'll probably start with the 15mm.

Any help would be so greatfully appreciated!

Hey Tom I race with you down at Awesome from time to time.. I also have one of these old MTE engines. It barely has compression but it runs like a bat outta hell! I raced it this past weekend at tiltyard and finally decided to tear it down to rebuild. Being that parts support is zero I'm going to send the piston and sleeve out to Ray A Racing to have him pinch it. Hopefully I can get a few more gallons of life out of it. Everything else in it is tight so we'll see. I have have found that my MTE 5 port runs really well at around 230. This is a fat tune for it, but if I get the temps over 230 it tends to flame out. Are you still racing any nitro? Or are you all electric now?

My engine is JPT edition which is 5port.
Is there any compatible conrod?

Ive been running Orion for the last 3 years, and I can not believe how horrible the support is here in the US, even though several Factory Drivers run them.. You cant buy current engines or parts here. I have emailed Orion US, sent messages on Social Media and got no response and I just wanted to buy some new engines for this year.... Sucks cause I really like the engines and had awesome luck with them, but its time to move on....

I will second this! I got the 3 and 5 port from Team Orion Shop. Great price and great shipping considering they are in France. The 3-port worked flawlessly - I loved it. The 5-port, not so much. Hardly any parts and no support meant I went back to the OS Speed, Spec II's...

Maybe they want people to buy new engines, rather than repair used engines.

Could be very true, but not the best model. :)

I may have been a bit harsh w/ my assessment. There is a parts section that supports the current motors. I am not sure about the JTP or King models that came out a couple of years ago.

They dont sell the new engines here in the US. I generally buy new engines every year. This is the 3rd year on my Orion, and just ordered Reds Engines as I got no response from Orion using any media. AND if they dont want to make parts and want to force everyone to buy new engines, screw that.... Thats not good support....

So they only sell them, through Orion overseas?

This is the only place I have found. Granted, I haven't looked all that hard. The 5-port left a bad taste so I easily went back to the OS Speed's... You'll like the REDs - great line of motors...

I have an old team orion engine I never figured out exactly which type it is. It is however a 3 port ABI one.

The conrod broke last time i drove it and I am looking to replace it hopefully with a cheaper brand then orion conrods, does anyone know if a different brand conrod would fit this engine? or what engine it is?

seems to be about 29mm from hole to hole but its hard to measure since it broke!
