What's the fuel mileage for that pipe and motor? I saw someone said it would get about 9:30..

Well, I did it! Orion "MTE" edition on the way for my buggy. I debated for 3 days(with advice from this thread) between the "new" CRF Alpha 3 port or the Truhe edition with the 2013 pipe. The deciding factor was (i think) the MTE will scream on top and have the same power everywhere else as the 3 port. I know I am trading some runtime, but I am ok with that.
Any guess on what runtime will be on a track like Nitropit? Thanks |
Just ordered the 3 port Alpha CRF ABI. Which one of the glow plugs should I order for this engine the #5 or #6

Alpha .24
Hey guys,
Need some tuning help. I have 9 tanks thru my Orion .24. The idle is consistent and perfect. I used a heat gun to bring the motor up to 200 degrees before I started it every time. I idled 4 tanks with the head taped, and idled it at 210 degrees, tank 5 thru 8 figure 8's on the ground(dirt) with tape removed. It was very rich, barely gets going at all, made sure temps were 200-220. Tank 9 started to lean out HSN, I am 2-1/4 turns IN from flush!! LSN is slightly in from flush. BTW, its 85 degrees here in AZ today, but that still seems like too much. It accelerates pretty clean, still sounds a little rich. Good smoke trail. Definately coming to life! It sounds great and temping at 238. What's up with the HSN? Should I leave it? I was going to put another 5 tank through it tomorrow night at about 50% throttle on the track and then step up to 80%. |
motor
I would hit the track tomm and just run it like you would normally and go about 65% down the straight, let off and coast. Then on the next tank hold it on for a little more down the straight. check your temp every 3 or so laps . 238 is not hot for this motor. If it starts getting really hot fatten the top 1 or so and lean the bottom 1 . then see how it runs from there. It will not just break in and be perfect on 10 tanks .

Hey Thx Mission,
I heard these motors like to run hot (250 range), I was just really concerned about how far in the HSN was in. I have always run Nova's until now and their HSN have run flush, not 2-1/4 turn in! It just scared me a bit :) |
So for Orion Plugs the lower the # the hotter?? Sorry, need to order some and need info..
Thanks |
Yep, lower = hotter. #5 is equivalent to a P3, Pop posted the part numbers a couple pages back. #5 under 85 degree #6 over 85, I think

We are using Orion 5 (ORI88854) and they work perfect. Last year we was using P3 but we broke alot of them ( running out of fuel when practice = broken plug).
Then we are using 2057 as david like it more than 2066 that give less running time (2013 is not allowed in Europe). |
Hey Guys need some help.. broke the carb body on my 3 port alpha (non ABI / standard version), they cost $130 :weird: and I was wondering if Nova or OS carbs can be used... I read that some people use .18 carbs on .21 engines to improve fuel time, sacrificing a bit of power....
Never the less I have a nova P5 and a 327, and an OS .18.... Just wondering If any of you know if these can be used???? P.S. The motor Idles great like usual, but when punching the throttle it bogs and will rev inconsistently, and of course flame out. |
Are the pros using the stock plastic carb?

Just got a 3 Port. Quality looks really good, I will break it in this saturday. Got the Werks 2013 and it is a nice pipe. Love the gusseted stinger.
