Plug Problems
I have a almost new RB s-5 motor (3/4 of a gallon) with a long header and OS 2040 pipe and I'm having glow plug issues. I am having problems keeping the glow plugs working. The plugs are not distorded or broken but after a tank or 2 they stop working. This happen to the RB plug that came with the motor and a #6 McCoys. I also used a MC59 and that last a while longer but still died. The motor is smoking on the top at Full throttle. The motor is a little rich on the bottom still but not sure if thats causing the problem or not. Please help.

Hi Chris.
Sorry. Lost this thread. A few questions please. 1. If the shark 9 is different than the Cross 10, will there be a new Shark 10?? 2. I am having problems keeping up with which pipe from RB does what. :weird: A good friend of mine was telling me that there have been changes with ERFR re pipe standards/noise issues and the numbers on the pipes have changed as well. Is there a list of what pipe does what? :sneaky: Thanks |

There could be a lot of reasons for a plug to fail. If you are still running very rich that could be a problem, also when you turn off the engine if you plug the exhaust that forces extra fuel into the engine and can foul a plug. When you pull the plug out look at the top of the piston and make sure there are no pitting marks on the piston. Personally I have never had luck with the McCoy plugs lasting very long. Does the plug seem to go bad in the middle of driving the engine or does it run ok untill you try to start the engine next?

Dr Evil: I have not heard anything about there being a new version of the Shark motor, it was a limited edition engine so it may not be released again. I have not actually used a Cross10 to give an exact comparison but I am sure they are close as the only difference is the crankshaft.
The Pipes from RB have had some number changes to them in the past year or so with the new regulations in Europe. The 2045 pipe which is a great all around pipe with good fuel economy is still available but is also made in a 3 chamber version for Europe and it is the 3001 pipe. The 2020 pipe is a bottom end pipe which will really make your engine snappy on the bottom but you will notice a loss in top end performance. This pipe has a 3 chamber replacement as well and it is the 3002. Those are the primary off road pipes RB has, I have also tested the 2018 pipe which is listed as an onroad pipe and it really woke up the engine and seemed to give me more bottom end and top end as compared to a 2045 but the fuel economy went down hill. RB also has a version of the popular 2013 pipe from Sirio and is listed as an Onroad pipe, these pipes produce more bottom end than the 2045 and about the same top end but the fuel economy is worse than the 2045. I did talk to Kevin about a week ago, he is doing good just busy with school right now so he as not been doing any racing. |
run time issue with s7 l2g
Guys im sure this has been answered but i cant find it. I am having serious run time issus with a s7 l2g I know my big prob. is the pipe im running jp-3 But any help would be great thanks in advance. Also runnin mc-59 plug and byrons 30%. Barely running 6 min.

ws7 II Buggy 9 Compatability
:tire::tire:guys i have a case/crank/head of a buggy 9, also most likely have a ws7 11 coming,question is, can i make a great motor out of the 2?..will the buggy 9 low profile head fit the ws7 II? are either of the motors compatible, thanks....i see you can use this with that etc...so im curious...

I would say the best thing to do is set your HSN back to 3.5 turns from closed and retune. Also if you have any other pipe I would give it a try, I have not seen an OS pipe work good on any RB engine. Also 3/4 of a gallon is still pretty new for these engines so you don't want to be trying to get the max power out of it quite yet. When you bring it to a stop and you say it will not start again. do you pull the glow plug out and check the plug in a plug lighter to make sure it is not glowing at all? A lot of times if you overheat an engine it will come into the pits and die and not want to restart. |

How new is this engine?? If still under a gallon and hard to turn over you will not get good mileage. The L2G heads are kind of low and for me they always seemed to make the engines run a little warmer than the old style or new style heads. If your engine is broken in don't be afraid to lean it out, you might see temps around 250-260 but as long as you still see smoke you will be fine. Finally you might want to try regearing your car a little. The S7 is a square stroke engine with 7 ports so it is not going to have a killer bottom end, because of this lack of bottom end a lot of people are full throttle right off the bat with this engine. I used to run the WS7 and in a Losi buggy I would change the gearing from 13/48 to 13/50... this helped my fuel mileage, made the engine feel like it had more power and also made the engine run cooler as it was not working so hard to get the car rolling. |

Tommy, the WS7II and B9 have very few parts that are compatible. The cooling head is one of the compatible parts but the head on your WS7II will actually work better for you than the B9 L2G head as the engine will cool better with the WS7 head. The B9 has a 14mm crank and the WS7 is a 13mm crank. Sorry man!!

WS7 II is the motor I always ran in my buggy untill the Shark9 came out. The WS7 does not get the best gas mileage but with the 9901 I bet it will be decent. The WS7 is more of a top end engine so you may want to look into a spur gear with one or two more teeth than stock. I always ran a 50 instead of a 48 to get some extra grunt out of the engine. You can change the clutch bell but one tooth on your CB is a more dramatic change than 2 teeth on the spur. The case will not be compatible either unfortunately. |
