+1 I'm interested in hearing more about RB. You don't hear much about them but I have had a few discussions with a couple of people here and I know I'm making a good choice going with an S5 next season. It would be nice to hear some more comments on RB and what to expect - pros and cons on them and tips for them:nod:

There was only one RB at our track last year - I think a C6BB. Of course that one is a monster. He could keep pace with the fastest 1/8 brushless easy. But the thing ran nice and cool and would sit and idle all day.

Race-Wright 11-04-2008 08:52 AM

A RB is the only motor I will run. I've tried other brands but never had any luck. The best RB I have is the S5. Very smooth and drivable. The C6 is more for big tracks with wide sweeps. The ws7II I owned lasted 2 years with weekly races on it.

RB may be up in the price range but the quality and performance can not be beat.

RB's are great engines. I have them in all three of my vehicles. My only gripe is that their customer service at RB USA is terrible.:flaming: They don't answer the phone and if you leave a message they don't call you back. I work at two hobbyshops and we had a better time getting products and answers when they had only one guy Mid-West importing the engines.

That's not good. I did see on RB's forums where someone complained they had trouble finding a place to buy an engine and complained about RB USA and at least RB responded that they are working on something short term. :weird: Maybe things will get better I hope.
I know two track guys that both work at hobby shops but I don't think that either of them normally carry RB or can really get them. When I buy my S5 next Spring I hope that I can get one through either guy locally but hopefully there will be a place on the internet to buy. I think there is right now but many places say they are not available right now. :weird:

I love s3's and s5's. They last forever and are very reliable. I have tried other engines and had nothing but problems, RB's for me.

C Branch 11-04-2008 10:40 AM

Changes are being made and there will be a new distributor announced soon.

How long ago was that? I recently had to send an engine to RB USA and the response and follow up was phenomenal. I did hear that in the past they had issues and I was quite afraid that I was going to have a similiar experience, but I was very impressed.

aaron joy 11-04-2008 11:37 AM

That was only about a month ago. We tried over and over again, I got the guy at RB-USA on the phone one time and he sent me to Great Planes to look for parts. I hope they get on the ball too or I may just have to keep buying used engines. I got a used 3 gallon C6BBT for $120 a month ago with ceramics installed and it is a monster in my truggy! One of the local Hobbyshops I work at has a new C6BBT and a C6BBT with pipe that I have my eyes on for next season.

petevette 11-04-2008 11:54 AM

Hmm, maybe my situation was a fluke then. I am with you, love their engines though.

RBMike 11-04-2008 12:37 PM

RB did loose their US rep recently and are getting the situation fixed. If you want an RB try this guy, he always can get me any RB stuff I need.

I've been using RB for years & every time I try something else, I'm disapointed & go back to RB. If your track is small the S5 is my favorite. For big tracks both the WS7III & the C6 are great. I like the C6 with a 2045 pipe the best on big tracks. If your on a budget & have a medium to large track I recomend the regular S7. For me If you told me I could only buy 1 motor & had to run it on every track I would pick the regular S7. These motors last a long time if you take care of them & keep them tunned properly. They are easy to tune (especially the S motors). Please, if you get an RB, run a good pipe on it. Pipes make all the difference on performance. For me, I like the 2045 pipe for racing with the C6. Great power & fantastic fuel economy. For track bashing & practice I like the 2020 pipe but it has worse fuel economy.

I'm not an employee or affiliated with RB Concepts in any way.

r1harper 11-04-2008 01:11 PM

are they back in busines..if so who is running it. Kevin?

r1harper 11-04-2008 01:11 PM

i am about to get another RB WS7III, i love that engine.

epfalzer 11-04-2008 04:32 PM

What pipe for the WS7III is best and I dont mind spending $100+ as long as it is tried and true?

Thanks!

TTREB4 11-04-2008 05:11 PM

I'm looking at getting an S5. what is the best pipe for it?

r1harper 11-04-2008 05:17 PM

epfalzer- for the ws7III the RB 2045 is highly suggested, but i have ran a 053 and it was very good as well.

r1harper 11-04-2008 05:18 PM

TTREB4- when i ran the S5 i really liked the RB 086, it wakes the engine up alot, i have been hearing good things about a go tec 0801, but have not run one yet.

bjr48 11-04-2008 06:16 PM

If I get a S5 L2G and put my 9886 pipe/long header on it on a smaller track what do I do for a venturi/carb restrictor? Is the only or best choice an RB one and how small do I go? It does not come with any right?

tony montana 11-04-2008 06:22 PM

no they come with no insert, get the innovative design insert. I would go with a 7mm insert. I have a s7 l2g. Love the engine, but I had to replace the front bearing at 2 gallons because it was leaking so bad. I put a new tko ceramic in it and it still leaks.

wingracer 11-04-2008 06:54 PM

I run for RB USA and haven't heard about any changes but I haven't talked to Jamie in a while. I will try to give him a call tomorrow and see what I can find out.

hambydsgb 11-04-2008 06:54 PM

i love my RB S7II, I have two of them and they run very strong, this last weekend it was running so well that people were asking what kind of motor are you running and who tuned it, i loved it. this mortor is very easy to tune and i run it with a JP-1 pipe.

SPEEDSKI 11-04-2008 06:56 PM

I have the C6 BB. i just ran it for the first time this past weekend. It really helped my driving style. I picked up from a 5:18 to running around a 5:06 in my heats which is alot. I've been running OS Speed which I still like, but the RB just seemed to have the right power where and when I needed it. Times don't lie, so I'm sold on the RB.

Don't worry about the leak. Many Nova based motors don't even use a sealed bearing. It seals when running due to the tight clearances between the crank and crankcase but will leak when not running. The TKO's are great though.

just wondering what fuel and nitro % everyone is running? Im running nitrotane 30% and im not totally sold on this fuel. I must also add that im running a dynamite 086 pipe for know (because of funds) and i plan to get a 2045 in the near future.

i also love this thread, there was absolutly no info, so just keep posting with anything!!;)

That 086 will make more power but will be illegal for big sanctioned races. For local races that allow it I would stick with the 086.

Also, there is lots of info in the exclusive nitro engine zone in the nitro onroad forum. There is an RB engines thread in there.

tony montana 11-04-2008 07:25 PM

im using 30% fuel in my s7. Runs great on it. I have a 2045 pipe I may sell if your intrested

r1harper 11-04-2008 07:25 PM

doesn't rb make a 3 chamber simular to the 086?

i don't have to worry about any big races yet:lol:
i need more track time.

r1harper 11-04-2008 07:38 PM

That thread is for the onroad guys...does Kevin Weiss still work at rb usa?

Last I heard he did. That is the RB engines thread. Don't let it's presence in the onroad forum fool you. I guess the people that made this board think that only onroad guys use nitro motors. Hell, people even talk about the TMax motors in that thread.

triplesix 11-05-2008 05:31 AM

I love those engines! I've got two WS7-III and both are super reliable, great power band and easy to tune. Still undecided which motors to buy for next season - whether another WS7 (L2G Turbo Version) or a C6...
Orange rocks!

hambydsgb 11-05-2008 05:59 AM

SHIMS

How many head shims are on the head in stock form? and do you run more shims to run 30% like the book says? I have been running 20% because it says not to use over 25% wiht out 1mm of shims?

Kevin is no longer with RB.

If your asking about Ace, yes they are back in business but JR is no longer the owner & they have moved. I have not talked to Kevin in a while but I know he is freinds with Ace's new owner but not sure if he is involved.

r1harper 11-05-2008 01:53 PM

Man that sucks Kevin was good as gold. the Ace websight looks identical to the old one. i will most likely do business with them.

jepjepjep 11-05-2008 03:57 PM

Does anyone run a RB S3 in their truggy? Impressions?

tony montana 11-05-2008 04:02 PM

Im sure it would be ok, but probaly under powered, I wouldnt go with anything less than a s7 in truggy, but if I was gonna buy a truggy engine it would be the c6 l2g

novacrzy 11-05-2008 04:15 PM

a s5 would be plenty of power a s3 would be a little week i think
