what happened with the S line of rb engines?(s3, s5 etc) I assume they have been discontinued and replaced with the 9 series?
|
Yes, they have been replaced with the junior (S3) and hobby (S5). Basically the same except for the lighter cooling heads and aluminum orange carb pinch bolt assembly.

Help with C5

Add 0.1mm shim to the engine.
Just make sure you know, shims aren't all 0.1mm. Stock the engine should have two shims; 1) 0.2mm 1) 0.1mm that gets you a total of 0.3, you need one more 0.1 for 30 percent(0.4mm). You could also use two 0.2mm shims if you wanted, to only have to bother with a total of 2 shims. EDIT: if you want to run 20 percent, use 0.3mm in shims total (probably the two the engine came with....although i'd still check) if you want to run 30 percent, use 0.4mm in shims total |

Hay ya'll,
Just picked up a Hobby 9 for my Z01-b. Any tips for break in? I'm gonna try my dynamite 053 pipe on for now, anyone else try this combo? I run on a medium sized track with tight infield and a couple of sweeping turns. Also, what is a good plug for this motor in really hot/humid conditions. Will O'donnell plugs work in this motor? I have a couple of 99's lying at home. Thanks for any info! |

im figuring that 99 is odo99t. thats the far best turbo plug iv used on anything it will fit. in my mod turbo button s5 iv tried every pipe and from full to empty tank with consistancy both the 083 with short header(smooth powerband, great runtime) and 2045&192mm header(very strong,10+min runtime) are best. with your hobby nine(being the big new rb engine!) id say 053 might be perfect. my s5 naturally lacked top end. your hobby nine i hear is about the same as a cbb6 and lacks a little bottom. that 053 should be great. iv seen a lot of c6 guys run jp1 or an rb pipe.

No my Hobby 9 is a standard plug version. I got the odo99. I'm hoping that 053 works good.

i have been a fan of RB engines for a long time but i am losing faith fast. the piston rist pin clip came out of my newest ws7III with only 2 gal through it. i understand things happen and can live with that but what really bugs me is that twice in the last couple of months i have tried to contact RB and they don't respond. 1st time i was looking for a part # for a replacement screw for the carb and i left a email message and recieved no responce(2 months ago) and this time when i called the message said to leave a voice mail but the mailbox was full and it wouldn't let me. when i spend this much money on a race engine i do expect some level of customer service. i still believe RB engines are some of the best built but i think i will be looking for another company if things don't improve.
i hate to flame a company on line but feel they need to know how their customers feel and if they don't answer there phone or emails i don't know any other way. randy |

And it only leads people away eventhough quality is were it was. |
i understand having problems but after several months it looks like they should be able to aswer the phone or an email to the posted company contact #s. i work in a hobby shop and run a off road track and am very busy so i don't have much time to spare but i try to return calls and aswer emails. i just think it may be time for me to try another engine manufacturer.
:( |
i also love my RB's. But ever since Rody left and they closed the forum they seem to have dropped off the pace worldwide.
|
It is really sad you guys are coming down on the man. He is trying his best, I don't think there would be a problem if there wasn't a big release of new engines and the demand wasn't so high. I work at a hobbyshop too and new RB retailer. He has been great to us, I sold all but one of the nine engines I ordered in the last two months. I tried to order a " Hobby" 5 port and we did not get it, already backordered. So I don't believe it is his fault I think it is RB's in France getting the engines here.
|
i am not coming down on him hard i don't think. i just said i like better customer service. i believe RB engine are among the best built and i am sure he is working hard to get it together. he should at least have someone to answer the phone and emails and even read this forum and respond to questions. i will say no more, just wanted to put in my 2 cents.
|
same here. I love the RB motors. i just bought another one
my problem is that they closed there forum and there is no one providing support for the product anymore. it used to be if you havd a tuning problem or any other problem, you could go to the RB Forum and ask a question. Rody would always give you the right answer. Now there is no one there to answer the questions their forum was one thing that made them such a great engine producer it still wont stop me from buying an RB. but it might sway me to look at other brands in the future |

I have the Hobby 9 5port and its a very smooth engine!!:tire::tire: Holds a tune well and runs well at around 240-260. I have one gallon through 25% Byrons with the original plug still in it. RBs are great engines!!! The Hobby 9 is perfect for someone on a budget who wants good power throughout.

A few questions about the 9 series.
It is still NovaRossi Based right? Has anyone tried to fit the 9 series parts into the "s series" s3,s5,s7,ws7? That is one thing I love about the s series is that all the parts are interchangable. It would be awesome if the 9 series parts would fit the older s series line. |

I would just about all the new "9 series" parts are interchangable with their prior models. Some of the new parts are things like orange aluminum carb pinch bolts and lighter low profile heads with less fins.
Hey Jud I forgot to show you today I got a RB 2045 w/192mm header. By far the best pipe combo I have ran on my C6's. Worth the money in the performance you gain. |
Who has the New B9??? I loved my C6's and I am wanting to try the B9 now. Hopefully someone has been runnng one for atleast a few gallons, I am interested in what you have to say.
Thanks |

Thanks Buggydad. I was looking more at the wrist pin configuration. If you look at the wrist pin it has a hollow side and a solid side. I need to know which way it faces when assembled correctly. You can look through the exhaust port and tell. I took my apart and forgot how it goes back together!

Rick The solid side should be at the exhaust port side. Which means if you look from the exhaust port you should see the solid side. Does anybody has any idea whether RB shut down their forum or what ?. Been trying since yesterday and the link is always broken. |
