If you still need more bottom you could buy the 50 tooth center spur and run 13t clucth bell/ 50t spurgear for More punch.

well i am running the 50/13 already, and the header is stock on the 86 pipe.
i know a gold/gold setup, wont last as long but how long whould the gold/gold last with alum med shoes ?

im pretty sure i have a long header.

heres a short header i saw

Ok as far as wear i dont know for a Fact i run a losi 2.0 buggy with stock clucth set-up. But i would say a good 3/4 or a gallon more or less depending on when you tear down and inspect the clucth. I try and clean the clucth shoes every race to two races. Hit it with aome 1000 grit sand paper trying to get all the build up off you can.

Is anybody familiar with the RB Engine Protect. I am a sucker for new gadgets and have purchased and installed one on my WS7III. Fit and finish is top notch! The concept makes sense to me. My concern is the extra rotating mass of the part itself. Would it have the same effect as a heavier flywheel? Could it damage the crank or bearings? Any thoughts from you engine experts? I am a big believer in products that help extend the service life of my nitro engines!

i was looking at, that to and thinking about trying it but if you use it how is the flywheel supposed to go on ?

Chris Peralta 08-20-2010 10:45 AM

I have actually tried with and without and the little bit of weight with it on there was not noticeable to me but I already run the steel flywheel. Being aluminum riding on the hardened steel crank it should not harm the crank at all and the little nipple it has makes so it only touches the inner race of the front engine bearing. It really does keep the front bearing a lot cleaner!!!

but if you use, the bearing protector where does the flywheel go than ?
do you have a pic ?

secretsg 08-20-2010 10:56 AM

I'm a little lost. So this thing functions like the dust protector lip on the werks power clutch flywheel?

Chris Peralta 08-20-2010 11:03 AM

You slide the engine protect over the flywheel, then you install your steel/brass collet, then install flywheel and clutch like you normally would. It works much better than the flywheel that cups over the case, the Losi flywheels cup over the crank case as well to keep dirt out but the engine protect fits much much tighter and keeps the dirt out better.

sounds good if, you run on a track that maybe is too watered you will see all the dirt behind the flywheel going onto the engine bearing !

its worth trying.

i use the answer wide alum flywheel for the eight.

I will try and get a picture of mine and post it. Installation is very simple. Slide on the “protect” over the crank and as Chris says it rests on the inner front bearing race. Then slide on the collet, slide on the flywheel, tighten it up and you are go to go. As I mentioned, the fit and finish is excellent! No problems with shimming the clutch bell. Once assembled, you can hardly tell it is there. It appears it should function as advertised! I will find out tomorrow. I will get a picture of it installed and a picture of the front of the bearing after a day at the track using the “protect”. Typically a fair amount of grim collects behind the flywheel after a day at the track.

I was thinking by adding the extra mass it might be an extra bonus in helping the bottom punch for the WS7. As we know, the WS7 is not know for it's bottom end kick! I think my flywheel is aluminum. It is a Ascendancy Racing four shoe set up.

Rb engine protector

It really heslps keep dirt, mud, water if your tracks always freshly watered like some of my. Its like $16 plus tax and i Beleave 100% it well make your engine bearing Last Longer. I tried it on all my rbs and i have a C6, shark, old ws7 2 it fits perfect. It goes on over the crank the you put the collet on then the flywheel Etc. If you got the spare $$$ try it you well love it. Speedyrob

Timmo 08-28-2010 03:31 PM

Which new RB engine do you guys think is comparable to the old C6.
