Check the size of your crank pin. If it's 5mm, any Nova R rod will work. Older RBs used a smaller pin, like 4.9 I think. Those will need an old RB rod. Roleof knows the exact dimensions, I could be wrong.

Nova .195", RB .198". Yes you're missing something.

This has always been the case, actually .196 on the Nova. On some newer Rb engines they may have the .196 size. When I used to rebuild alot of Rb's and the crank was worn, a used nova rod would fit great saving some $.

Why on earth would you people be using imperial measurements when measuring products designed and manufactured in countries which use metric? Makes no sense whatsoever.

you stated crankpins are same size but they aren't. However, my RB Blast V12 has a full circle single slugged crank that has the nova sized(.196") crankpin.
Then you say I'm right. Are you a bit confused? Remember the user asked about a Blast V15. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the same version differs.

The only difference between your V12 and the V15 is the V15 has two slugs on the crank, conrod part number is the same and everything. So basicly, as far as I can tell, he should be able to use the cheap Go or Alpha con rods.

I have a Blast V15 and the rod has some slop in it already. RB replacement rods are too expensive and would like to know which of the Nova rods will fit this? I know I read somewhere to measure the crank pin but I don't have measuring tool and Im hoping someone here knows off hand....any other rod other than a Nova that will fit? Alpha, GO etc? I know the quality is lower on the other brands but I cant see spending the coin for an OEM rod for such a budget engine at this point.
IMO rod-play and the need to change them is way overrated.. |
Sorry fellas, I didn't mean to start an argument here. I'll just try a friends GO rod and see.
Reason I want to use an Alpha or GO rod is because the cost of an OEM RB rod is 60+ dollars and the engine was only 159.99 so I can't see me spending the coin for an RB rod. If I can get away using a cheaper rod for a few more gallons then I'm a happy camper. I appreciate all the responses and again, sorry to start all of this. |
