i should have a full day of practice on my .24 powerhouse rc performance motor after this week end im quite sure the .24 will tote the mail in truggy ...mark smith at powerhouse has done a few of the .24 's including mine ....some of the guys up north he sponsers have been running them and he said on a good tune i should have no issues running 12-13 minutes range ..i will post back after this coming weekend and have some video as well  |
I ran one (.21) race prepped (not full mod) last season in a variety of buggies- LOVE IT! Had the .24 in my ST-RR and it was too much for all but one track (HUGE with a long straight)- tried it at the Mapston Memorial race and was just too much, I stuck the .21 in and it was money. smooth with lots of top end, My CL7B had a little more grunt on the bottom but a newer lighter truck like the LOSI will like it fine. If I had to complain abiut it my bitch is the Carb, The slide is a little stickier than my Novarossi but that's the case on all my Trinity/ Sirio stuff- works fine you just have to be extra carefull setting up your linkage (watch your bottom idle screw- make sure the slide is open/ extended when you turn it in). Great Motor- I have a fresh one for this season (and the old one still screams with about 5 gallons) Definately a safe purchase,

when you say bottom idle screw do you mean the idle screw or the lsn:tire: |
I have the .21 full mod in my x1 crt & it is plenty. Lets put it this way at my local track there is a single to table top right out of a turn , most truggies had trouble clearing it consistently, i did every lap. Then after i landed it would pull the front wheels if i went full throttle. i think you will be pleased w/ this engine in your 8ight 2.0.

I ran my .24 race prep this past weekend at the Nitro Challenge and it ran great:) It started up with no problems every time and if I let it, it would idle all day long. It had a ton of power and would run for over 8 min. We temped it every time it came off the track and it stayed between 195 and 200 deg. I had people pitting around me checking out what engine I was running and they were all impressed with what they were seeing.
Thanks Trinity for all your help. I'm looking forward to racing my buggy and truggy at the Silver State race. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...lenge09047.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...lenge09050.jpg |

I think he means the idle screw will bind on the low speed slide unless it is open. I remember something like that with a sirio I had years back.

A couple quick questions for you guys. Just got a ET .24 base model and fired it up yesterday. After hearing it run for about 4 seconds i knew the needles were severely out of whack.Factory settings call for 2 1/2 on the LSN and 4 1/2 on the HSN. so i readjusted and it still seemed very lean, had to go another 2 full turns on the LSN, now it sits just a hair over flush. Same on the HSN. In doing this I noticed the motor is set just a hair on the rich side, top and bottom. Anyone else come across this yet? And it seems the LSN doesnt have much restriction on it, turns very easily. I am afraid with the motor vibration it will only turn itself and lean out unexpectedly. Any ideas to fix this little bug?
Im running byrons gen 2 25%, LRP #7 md-cold, and ofna 086 pipe. All in all the motor seems like its gonna be stupid fast!!! I`m just trying to get some input so i can enjoy it for as long as possible. |
Sounds like your right there on HSN (1/2 to 1/4 turn out from flush) and LSN (flush) settings. This motor likes to run a little rich on bottom. My Extech .21 seems to run best around 180-195 deg. temps. I guess you could put a dab of shoe goo on outer part of LSN would to keep it from turning. As far as plugs, I like to use ExTech #5 Hot or O.S. P4

Hsn 1/4 turn out from flush with housing Lsn flush with housing Idle screw 1.28mm gap Tuned settings were Hsn flush with housing Lsn 1/4 turn in from flush with housing Idle screw 1mm gap This should at least get you In the ballpark. sholler - Engine is shimmed for 30% not 25%.. Also a #7 is to cold in my opinion. You need to be running a P4 or #5.. Also Gen 2 is it 9% or 11% oil.. the more oil it has, the richer, the needles will need to be..
Thanks |
I believe it is 11% oil content. Even the non modded, non pre-ran .24s are shimmed for 30%? I wasnt aware of this. Whats the fix? I have always heard the higher the nitro content the more you want to lean to the coldest plug you can get away with. It starts up so easily and idles down great. After i get the shimming issue out of the way I will be ordering some hotter plugs. Any recommendations on the LSN to "stiffen" it up a bit?

On both my EBmods .21 and my 2.0 FM, my LSN was the same way. I never have had any issues with it turning itself during use. I am pretty sure the oring in there helps to keep it in place. I too fattened up both needles quite a bit from factory. Every engine is differenet and is run in different climates. Mine are happy between 185 and 210.
As Chad said for plugs, you should use the Extech #5 or the OS P4. Some are have luck with OD 97t's but I have not tried them. In previous engines I did and were too unpredictable for me. I have YET to have an Extech #5 go out on me. |
