Trinity EXTECH .21

does anyone have any experience with this motor?

JustinD 05-20-2008 06:54 AM

Seen them run there awesome 10minutes on a tank super fast and super smooth blew my Tuned GRP out the water on the straight and on gas mileage.

Fierle03 05-20-2008 10:21 AM

how was on the bottom end. my track has both fast sections and tight technical. im looking for an all around smooth motor that has both top and bottom end power.

C Branch 05-20-2008 10:29 AM

I will let you know after this weekend!!

Colin

icemandolmite 05-20-2008 11:47 AM

i ran the motor this weekend and its great, tons of bottom, and lots of top end

blowpopracer 05-20-2008 11:50 AM

I hope they are better than their prior engines.

They are now Sirio based and the old ones were Picco based.
They also now have Ed Bridges (EB Mods) running the nitro department so I am sure the engines will be top notch.

Fierle03 05-20-2008 11:57 AM

i was looking at a v-spec, but if this mill performs like some say and it last a longer than the o.s I might spend alittle extra cash and buy the trinity.

JustinD 05-20-2008 12:03 PM

It will be worth the money I ordered mine 1 hour ago.

cdbias 05-20-2008 12:37 PM

plugs

I know you are supposed to use either an Odonell, Nova, or Sirio plug with these head buttons. Anyone else found another plug that works?

JustinD 05-20-2008 12:47 PM

I'm gonna get some 97-T's there fairly cheap and they work.

icemandolmite 05-20-2008 01:54 PM

i ran mine this past weekend at the tiltyard with oddenll97t

Was it the EB Mods version? What pipe did you run on it? Buggy or truggy?

Colin

jpalessi 05-20-2008 03:09 PM

;)

C Branch 05-22-2008 01:39 PM

UPS just dropped my new ExTech engine off.

The engine looks even better in person than in pictures. I will take
pics and post them later.

Mine came in to which version did you get ?

how is the tuning on these things? Every Picco/Sirio mill I have ran, I did not like the tuning characteristics at all (they were much more finicky to tune then any Nova I have had or GRP, etc)

Justin - you say they were pulling you on the straight at Homer's? I have to ask, could that not be a part of the buggy you are running?? Reason I ask is my GRP in a truggy is the fastest mill I have ran (21-5kt, Ninja, Max power M5) and I am getting 10 minutes per tank and coming off at the track at 200 degrees tops.

I had heard these mills (Extech) were nice, but I was not aware they were that strong...I will be looking for some more feedback...also, is Homer gonna carry them?

icemandolmite 05-22-2008 06:49 PM

HOMER CARRIES THEM NOW

JustinD 05-22-2008 07:32 PM

No I was out running everyone besides the Extechs and I was getting 7 1/2 a tank they were doing 10 and running 220's.Also in the truggy they were the 2 fastest out there 1st and 2nd also the fastest lap on the track by one second.

icemandolmite 05-22-2008 07:37 PM

EXTECH TURN THE FASTESTLAPS PERIOD LAST WEEKEND
TRAVIS DUPREE HAD FAST LAP OF THE WEEKEND

Roberts 05-22-2008 08:11 PM

The Trinity motor might cost a little bit more then the V-Spec but you get a head you don't have to change out and I believe it comes with a ceramic rear bearing also. I pitted for Travis 2 weeks ago at the ECNS and it was the first race with the new Trinity motor and I was impressed. Now if you know Travis he can use all the power in any motor and he was. Still the motor was coming off under 200 deg. and it wasn't totally broken in yet.

I just bought a GRP 3 weeks ago but I will be looking at the Trinity motor for my next one.

Later,

Ed

I just got mine today. I pulled the rear plate off and it does have a ceramic bearing, as well as a filled crank. Looks very nice inside.

Colin

I bet its similar inside to my CL7B Sirio

cdbias 05-23-2008 06:09 AM

Nice

Got to bolt up my EB Modded X-Tech yesterday and I tell you what..... My GRP is officially a back up motor.......atleast until I can get a 2nd X-Tech.

The bottom end power is unreal but it is still a pretty smooth power band. When it transitioned to the top it just kept pulling very hard. I watched these things blow my GRP away at the Tiltyard all weekend and then got home and mine was setting on the porch. Thank God.

Fierle03 05-23-2008 10:50 AM

if this mill lasts for 10+ gallons it will be worth the cash but after looking at trinity's website, $200+ for a piston and sleeve it just seems way to steep for me.

maybe that's their MSRP price?

Maximo 05-23-2008 11:08 AM

I didn't go any further than taking the back plate off and looking in, but the crank looks similar, minus the coating.

I think the CL engine is a long stroke, ours is not a long stroke. Also the crank case volume is different as well. :D

remember if any of u have one of our engines and need help tuning. dont be afraid to come up to Ed or I. We are always here to help.

Maxi, raced with a EB modded Ex Tech last night (Sponsored driver too) and will tell you this from what I saw of it , It has REtarded bottom ! VERY responsive engine for sure ! As for milage... well my 21 gallon 421B consistantly out distanced it and pulled it on the straights and through the sweeper .He was getting consistant 7 minute runs and I was getting over 8 with no worries of running out ;)BUT I am a lot smoother on the trigger and my track is one that reqires a lot of throttle to be fast! The local hot shoe took the ExTech for a rip and run'er out of fuel at the 6 minute mark LOL .
He might be fast but he DEFINATELY hard on fuel :nod:
I was impressed by the engine's performance overall though ,for $429 (I think) for the modded version , this is a nice mill . Ran cool too.
If I could get 21 gallons from one I would DEFINTELY get one! But I need to purchase one first to find out LOL.

I think it may be a rebadged CL7B to be honest....which would match killer low end and little less top end

A few pics of the engine installed. Tonight is the maiden race.

Well, Just went out and fired it up for the first time. Fired right up
and runs like a raped ape already and it is still running rich!! Temped
at 190 and is blowing a lot of smoke. Loads up when idling, so there is
still a lot left in it.
I will let you know how it runs tonight.

sorry for being a bit off topic , but last year i purchased a trinity .28 , this engine ran great with good longevity , problem is now its a bit wore out and i noticed i cant get p/s or a rod thru the distributors ( horizon ) and there not listed on trinitys website . any info would be great thanks again ! - the extech looks good , might get one , but if i cant rebuild it next season it becomes an expensive paperweight ! :D

I would be surprised if Trinity and/or it's distributors don't still have parts for that engine.
I think that engine is the same as the Picco .28 so the parts will fit from that engine.

Look on nitrohouse.com for the p3 .28 p/s set. Amain might have them to.
