hell i hope mine runs at low temps well

ok it did it again but not till the fuel got this low. it really leans out not just a little but a lot is this normal? i dont think its normal ive been racing for years and dont remember it leaning like that until almost empty. ??

that looks like the dreaded associated gas tank i battled those things all last year:flaming:

chickenfarmer 01-04-2009 04:24 PM

Frank, have you tried a new tank? If I had a dollar for every motor issue I had this year due to those tanks I would have raced for free!

Teufel Racing 01-04-2009 04:44 PM

I just got back from running a winter series race,

Temp outside was 52 for a high and around 65% humidity
Motor ran in the day at 203, plenty of power and nothing to complain about
In the morning and eve. I could only get the motor up to 173, I probably have leaned it out some more, but didn't feel it was needed. Power was just as good, but the head temp was off.

Ran the 2056 bat pipe, which I think is the same as the new Big Boy pipe and liked it alot. Way too much motor for the little track I was on.

That gets my vote. Those tanks often start suckin' air at that level. Associated has had issues with the RC8/RC8T tanks as well as RC10GT2 tanks. When you're running your car and it starts to lean out when the fuel gets to that level, imediately pull over and look at the fuel line. Does it have a lot of bubbles?

One other thing...When you tune your engine are you doing it with a warm engine and a full tank, or with a hot (5 laps or so) engine and 1/2 tank? Tuning at 1/2 tank will lessen the lean out. This is assuming that you're not having tank problems...

Wow. Amain's price for that engine gets lower every time I check the listing...

i have the .24 eb mod pre run i am running trinity plat 30% and a p4 plug. i haven't moved the settings on the carb hsn a 3/4 above flush and lsn flush and idle 1.25 mm, JP-3 pipe. This is my third tank in this engine.

the tank is my third and is brand new lol, i have another brand new tank i will try. i did a leak test on the tank and came up with nothing. i submerged it in water and blew in the pressure nipple and closed off the fuel outlet nipple. i blew as hard as i could(lol) and no air bubbles. i used a high power light and could not see a crack or anything? i have tried new fuel line twice. it definately has air bubbles a lot of them at times at this level of fuel in the tank. under idle the bubbles dissapear but after a high speed pass there back.

you guys sure the fuel level just isn't too low?

I have pulled both the nipples(lol) and CA'd the threads and will try again tomorrow.

chickenfarmer 01-05-2009 04:35 AM

Try a new NON-AE tank.

cjm1126 01-05-2009 05:16 AM

i had to have 10 tanks replaced for internal air leaks when i was running associated, i switched to the xray fuel tank and it got rid of the air leak issue
