What carb restricters you guys using and who makes them for this engine?
I am ising the 053 pipe and makes great power but guzzles the gas. :( |
Any Sirio Based restictor will work (werks,Orion alpha)... Try using the 086 pipe for a little better fuel consumption.

I just got a second Extech 2 raced tuned yesterday
When I started it today all the settings on the carb were wrong it was righ and the HSN and LSN were sticking out I tried the rich settings and still would not work well, very rich What can I do for this engine and what settings I am using a dynamite HS pipe, odonell 77 plug, 30% fuel My first extech race tuned was right on and have not touched the setting since getting it a few months ago with the same pipe, plug and fuel |

Are you saying you have been running the engine for months at the break in settings? THe FM and RT models have been run on the bench with break in setting on the carb, you should have to go in SEVERAL hours on the HSN to achieve race tune. What temp is it running at?
The first Extech race prepped engine that I have not touched the settings on was EB mod, Ed Bridges, modded and race prepped hence the carbs were set to his dyno tune. I had an email from chad saying he now breaks in the Extechs now and leaves the carb rich. My contention is if it is broken in and race prepped dyno tuned it should have the settings that it was tuned with, why reset the carb and make it rich? I have 2 EB Mod engines and put it in the car and break in 20 mins and then race with the same settings I am disappointed bec I thought it would be the same Extech .21 race tuned engine like I had bought before. So spent more money on just being broken in, tuned and reset to rich, this does not help me and this is not what I expected hence the frustration right now. Evenmore bec I have a big ROAR race this sat where I will drive 2 1/2 hr to race this engine but will be breaking it in and tuning it over there  EB mod engine that were dyno tuned were very crisp and fast, I did not even dare to touch the settings because they were like butter, I could not do a better job if I tuned it myself for a few weeks. So what are a good starting point for this engine. I tried the rich settings in the instructions and was still way off, tried the tuned settings and were too lean, so I am at a loss right now. Temp was 220 after running half speed 5 mins. |
My FM 21 when I ran the Dyn 086 pipe ran 180-190 no matter where I ran it. I am not sure as far as how many turns in or out on the needles, I tune mine by feel on the track, and just check temps for a piece of mind I guess. As long as I get smoke coming out of corners and at end of longest straight, I am good with it. I did change this past weekend to the big boy pipe and had to lean the HSN 8 hours, but still came off after main at 192 degrees. This is in my Trinity Extech 2, I have the new Epic version sitting in my pit bag just screaming to go play:sneaky: I will say the big boy pipe WOKE THIS MOTOR UP big time, but I did loose fuel milage, which should not have happened, going to spend a little more time tuning and see if I can get milage back. I was getting around 10min a tank with the 86pipe.

What is the best pipe to use with the extech 2? I run a rev so it's a large track i tried different pipes the big boy, 086 didn't like either one

HI Everyone,
It has been a wild and crazy summer with the move. I wanted to apologize about not answering some of your guys emails and taking care of some of the problems as quickly as I have in the past. we went a fair amount of time without engines or parts and I have more responsibility which has hurt my CS time. Currently everything is back in stock and im catching up on backorders. The new engines are great and run better than before. A couple of the upgrades are new crankcase that has a lower cg, new head, and carburetor with a better fitting orings. no more loose lsn.. also they weigh less :) on another note. This is something most people dont think or realize when they are installing the clutch. sometimes cranks have a small amount of play. When installing your clutch, pull the shaft out as far as you can before installing cone washer and flywheel. By doing this it 1) prevents the rod and crank pin from wearing on the back plate 2) prevents premature wear from the rod bushing and crank pin as it wont move around during operation Thats it for now, TTYL Chad |
oh pipes and inserts
1) I only run Big boy on a .21 FM with 5.5mm restrictor. i can get 11minutes a tank everytime i run my car. 2) I only run a 2057 on a .24 FM with a 8mm restrictor. Same thing 11 minutes a tank.. both with os p4 glow plugs and 30% platinum fuel. Fuel plays a big part on runtime. |
