The full mod has a smoother power band and gives a little more top end, you do get a little better fuel mileage but the depends on you driving and tuning. I have seen them go 8 to 9 gallons without any problems with good preventive maint, but as any motor is it really comes down to proper tuning and good maint. Trying to compare motors one from the other you will always get what someone else likes better, they are both good motors but I have had the best luck with the Extech .24 as far as performance and feel in a truggy.

As far as tuning goes on these motor, they are very easy to tune and hold there tune well, in most cases I only have to adjust the HSN 1 to 2 hours due to different climate changes and that is it.

look at this video around the 6:00 mark. I was trying get an idea of fuel mileage on the motor at the time. truck chasing me was a Losi 2.0 w/ a vspec. I was holding back until we got the straight then I let him have it. thats how I think they compare.

race director's voice says it all...

granted this is the FM version. brand new 7955 was going out at the time so my steering sucked...had to make up time somewhere.

that was a killer run! does the .21 do as good in a buggy as the .24 does in a truggy?? Would a .24 be to much for my mugen6 buggy?

dreaux 07-14-2009 06:14 PM

also i have a brand new 086 pipe. Would that be a good pipe for it? Or should i get a better mid to top pipe. Losi re 11 or 053?

Yes.

24 extech

I wouldn't put the 24 in a buggy. Its already a handful in the truggy. I ran a dyanmite 053, had too much bottom and it seem to cut the top end. on top of it my run time went down. I think the big boy pipe is a perfect match for this motor. It smoothes out the power and makes it usable.

I'm on gallon 7 with this motor and am looking for a new one as back up. the new version should address the weak heatsink problem. I used lucky7 on the carb and carb boot, due to an air leak, but it's been trouble free otherwise.

I have another video posted running outdoors 2 weeks ago and its still running strong. damn good bang for the buck and will run with the best of them.

I was replacing the front bearing in the motor. more preventive maintenance than anything. I was pulling the sleeve out with my hand and what do ya know. only half the sleeve came out. How does something like this happen??

 wow. man that sucks. Well you were on gallon 7 but still, how could that happen? To lean?

fm 24 sleeve

this is how it happened. the sleeve is very thin throughout the middle. I took my heat gun and heated the case. the rest just slid out, but you can see there isn't much material in the middle to work with. preheat your motor before pulling this sleeve!! I'm guessing I will need a sleeve and maybe a new piston at this point. any ideas on where I can find them??

definitely wasn't run lean.. everything else looks good. conrod looks like jewelry..

I do not think that is how it happened. I have done that before and it was because I took off the back plate on the motor with the piston on BDC (on the bottom of the stroke). Check your back plate and see if there is a groove cut in it for when the piston is at the bottom. If so then you probably pried it off with the piston on the bottom and broke the skirt off of the piston. Lessoned learned for me as now I make sure my piston is on the top EVERYTIME I removed the backplate on any motor.

Has anyone been able to get in touch w/ Chad ? I'm not getting responses to email & wondered if it's changed from [email protected] Thanks

nope, the piston was at the bottom of its stroke and the backplate was already off. I can understand the piston breaking from pulling the back plate..seen guys do it and that would break the piston. the piston is fine. the sleeve was halfway up the case and broke. skeeve had already cleared the piston so that wasn't an issue. fit between the case and sleeve was a lil tight. I should have heated up the case, but had never seen a sleeve like this one. it's a lot thinner and ports are more open than my RB sleeves.

to give you an idea of size. My C6 sleeve doesn't fit in the Extech 24 case and my 24 piston doesn't fit in the C6 sleeve (obviously)....hence it's thinner...throw in a gorilla grip and voila.. to keep from

I've already been in touch w/ Chad and have a new piston/sleeve in the mail and no nothing in life is free. it's all good..it won't stop me from getting the new version.

here's the actual damage..
