tallyram 11-26-2008 09:25 AM

Zerodefect 11-26-2008 04:12 PM

I was reading through the thread and saw this...I thought I would share my method.

Take the motor out of the ride and remove the pipe...grab the flywheel in your fingers and put the exhaust port up near your ear and turn the flywheel over ....as the compression builds up near top dead center if you hear a hissssssing sound coming out of the exhaust you have what is called "leak down"...a little is okay but a lot means it's on its way out...

usually a small short hiss will be audible at first but as the piston climbs up in the sleeve the hiss stops...that is good....if the hiss continues all the way through the compression stroke that is bad...

If you think it's wore out then pull the sleeve and check it for scratches...if you dont have any scratches you can send it off to CEO or OSRocket to get the sleeve "pinched" to get some more life from the motor....or buy a new p/s

Im really liking this engine, Ran mine last week, I put a ninja jx p3 plug in it and it runs great. Makes great power and it has the best runtime of any engine I have ever had. If I had to guess, I would think Im getting around 8 or 9 minutes.

NDHotbodies 11-27-2008 06:54 AM

I too am using the GRP.21 pro engine in my Revo PE this year.. paid 420.00 at my lhs.. great engine.. nice idle, excelent run time...would'nt be afraid to go 10+ minutes if needed.. easy to tune.and reliable..run temps from 200 to 280..same results every time..only coplaint.that hat is too small what about us fat head old farts???

I knew of a guy that ran one but he was really good. There is a place that all they do is sell ninja carbs LOL.If you miss the race over this I'll loan you mine Grouchy.

zixxer 11-29-2008 09:54 AM

does anyone know if the idrc carb inserts will fit the grp

s porter 11-29-2008 02:50 PM

Brian, I do not believe the taper is the same at the bottom of the insert. Send an email to Ralph..

lovell 11-29-2008 04:18 PM

Anyone run the Losi RE10 pipe on the GRP yet...if so, how does it work?

s porter 11-30-2008 07:30 AM

No prob...If it's a promo kit, it will come with 3 restrictors.

Chill_Will 11-30-2008 11:00 PM

What Turbo glow plugs will fits the .21 other than the GRPs?

faith81 11-30-2008 11:05 PM

Thanks.... Is that all?

tallyram 12-01-2008 12:42 PM

an o.s. plug might work or might not as far as leaking goes. i have heard that sirio plugs work, but i have not tried one yet.

ABURTON 12-01-2008 01:16 PM

best thing to do is go with the plugs made for the engine Chill. They are not the cheapest but I feel they are the best for the engine. If you get them in the 5 pack you save some dollars.

Chill_Will 12-01-2008 02:14 PM

Well I don't get them free so I try to save when I can.

Todd Green 12-01-2008 04:04 PM

i use the p3 with no problems

itsshemp 12-01-2008 04:20 PM

I have switched to the OS plugs also, and have not experienced any leaking. I can imagine it being possible if trying to go back to the GRP plug, but I dont have a reason to at the moment.

Bigedmond 12-01-2008 04:22 PM

i have been told by GRP drivers that the os plugs work fine.

Chill_Will 12-01-2008 05:11 PM

Thanks guys

late ...im gonna stick with odonells plugs ...they have been good for me and priced right ....the last grp i saw ...the plug was bad out of the box ...now thats not knocking the plugs ....as im getting a grp ...but have had much better luck and longevity with o.d. plugs ....between 99t,97t,77t i oughta be good for our environment .....and thats med-cold,med,hot

MadRussian 12-01-2008 05:36 PM

Odonnell 097T here in my Ninjas (GRP made)

Chill_Will 12-01-2008 06:32 PM

So you saying the OD plugs work too?

tony montana 12-01-2008 06:36 PM

couldnt get mine to tune right with the grp plug #5. Switched to a p8 first and it tuned better, but since switched to the jx p3 and it runs great and rarley flames now. I really like this engine, very smooth power.

ABURTON 12-02-2008 06:23 AM

Have any of you guys tried this engine? What did you think about it?

http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/...dproduct=10021

Chill_Will 12-02-2008 07:19 AM

Anyone have any carb restrictors they want to be rid of for the GRP .21 tuned? Size 6 or 6.5? Pm me.

Also are there any other brand carb restrictors that will work with these carbs?

A bunch of guys run it where I race, and they love it. I can't think of hearing one bad thing about it. It sort of became the engine of choice at the track I run. Everyone is upgrading to the tuned version over the winter for more power. lol

yo chill im gonna save you some reading .... it seems and i have seen first hand ....that if you run say an o.s. plug ...or any other type plug in it ...you may have to stick with that brand ...it is possible there are slightly different tapers on turbo plugs ...what this causes is fuel spitting out from around where the glow plug fits into the head ....heres the scenario i witnessed first hand ......
grp plug bad out of box
used o.s. p-3
when o.s. p-3 blew out
tried odonells plug
motor wouldnt run because glow plug wouldnt seal and spit fuel out
solution ....put new p-3 plug in worked like a champ ...and is still working and using p-3 plug ....
i know first hand that odonells plugs will work fine ...i just dont know if you will be able to run any other plug in it ....hope that helped :weird:

not sure if the idrc inserts will work ...have asked ... but not sure ...if they do i have a 7mm you can have ....im getting the promo kit and it comes with the 8.7.6 i think is what porter told me

tony montana 12-03-2008 04:29 PM

Im not paying 15 bucks for a grp plug, I get almost 2 p3's for the price of a grp, plus the engine runs better on the p3
