I cant rememeber if this race requires a roar membership, but I believe if it does, you can purchase one there. I already have mine, from some other race I entered a while back.

I run the GRP .21 also, and when it is running its best, it usually comes in at about 190-205 after a main. I guess it depends on the gauge your using also. I have seen some be 30 degrees different than mine, so...

Sidewinder is going to be a lot of fun!!

I use Losi tuning screwdriver that has temp gun on end.. i know its not that accuried, but it was only 5 degrees the most, and 2 degrees closest to other temp guns. I just cant afford these high priced guns, i spend mostly on imporant things i will need for each races.

Also last race at Revelation, during day it would say 245.. but after about 3pm it goes down to 210-220.. when i only fatten it by half hour to one hour on hsn..

porkchop 10-28-2008 02:16 AM

i am hard on motors i go ahead and admit it but the grp the best motor i ever run imo it went 12 gallons on stock bearings them we pintch it and it now on gallon 13 it just keeps geting better and better

I have seen those Losi drivers be off as much as 30 degrees, but that may not be the case with yours. Hard to say, but as long as you got some smoke, and the engine is running fine, then temp is not that important really. I just make sure I am using the same gauge all the time, and use as a reference.

I have found the GRP to be real sensitive to tuning, so a tiny turn of the needles make a huge difference. Most of my adjustments are normally with the LSN, and not too much with the HSN. The LSN seems to cool the motor down, by just richening it 1 hr on the LSN. Mine is always within 1-2 hrs at any track i have gone to locally.

DirtyDezPirate 10-28-2008 07:32 PM

yeah theyre real senestive on tuning, i havent had issues with tuning it at different tracks.. it seems to be working fine other tracks.. Oh and the losi gun, mine was never 30 degrees off.. maybe your friend or yours was because you didnt clean the eye part. I use q-tip everytime i go onto the track wipe the dust, etc out of there.

DirtyDezPirate 10-28-2008 07:35 PM

Also the Sidewinder Nitro Explosion, there is no member required.. its pretty open, 40 bucks entery fee. 30 bucks additional classes.

for those who dont get this,

schedule is friday practice 10am to 7pm
saturday practice 7am-8am race at 9am qualifying
sunday practice 7am-8am, race at 9am main events.

and it is on the weekend of nov 8-9... at Thunder Alley, Beaumont, CA.

Would it be possible to use the standard head button on the GRP Tuned version? Can I use RB plugs as well instead of the GRP plugs? What affect would this bring? I just can't justify spending $15 on a GRP turbo plug when I can get an RB plug for half the cost. Thanks a bunch!

you don't have to use a GRP. OS P3's work great. yes they are still 10 bucks but not 15...

Jonro 10-29-2008 12:36 AM

You can pick up the GRP turbo's for $11 from here: http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/...idproduct=8943

Thats the cheapest Ive found.

Well they were cheap when the Aussie dollar was worth 90cUS, expensive now for me with the Aussie dollar at 60cUS :(

the number 5 perfect :D

ABURTON 10-29-2008 05:43 AM

www.carolinasrc.com got a local racer some grp's in a 3 pack for even cheaper(per plug) I think. Maybe give them a call.

Poppin Fresh 10-29-2008 06:59 AM

It's not about the turbo plug guys...i just want to swap a turbo button from the tuned GRP (orange head) to a standard button head from a stock non-tuned version GRP (silver head). Would that be possible?

Jesse Robbers 10-29-2008 09:13 AM

I do not think GRP makes a std. plug button. Their orange head engine has a head and turbo plug button. The silver head engine the head and button are 1-piece which uses std plugs. So to convert to std plugs you need to buy that silver head and some std plugs, then measure the deck height to make it the same.

tallyram 10-29-2008 05:11 PM

there was a standard button made for the grp ninjas, if you can locate one.

damn about time! I just spent 55 bucks on 3 grp plugs plus shipping a month ago..

desertbird 10-29-2008 09:00 PM

It's freaking almost the cost of a left nut for what a glow plug costs for these motors! I like the idea of standard button and standard plug. Is there really that much of a performance gain with a turbo button and plug?

Are you kidding? $55 I would have sent the motor back and had em send me an OS.

I am not giving up any of my kids for a glow plug!

Poppin Fresh 10-29-2008 10:25 PM

The turbo head button for the Tune GRP engine is separate from the cooling head. Amain hobbies has them for sale, but where can I get the standard head button for it?

Revo-daddy 10-30-2008 08:07 AM

Can someone educate me on the benefits of using a turbo plug vs. a standard? With plugs being that expensive I may look for an engine that uses standard plugs unless the turbo's offer a good benefit to me.

tony montana 10-30-2008 04:13 PM

I got a used grp and the plug in it says c5? Is that a grp plug? I will not spend 14.00 a plug that is crazy

Jesse Robbers 10-30-2008 08:10 PM

The C5 is a GRP plug

HA HA... neither would I give up kids for the glow plug.. But thats what i get when im stuck at the race days without extra plugs. I dont know about going back to OS.. i really like how the grp perfomance on track. I cant say that it beats OS vspec, but it sure is alot smoother than VSPEC..

Dietz 10-31-2008 07:39 AM

I put a standard button on my Falcon which now has the GRP orange head and crank with no issues.

amain! go to the ninja(grp) parts page and they have the STANDARD button in stock for like $31.00.

maximugen 11-01-2008 12:23 AM

Hey guys, quick question for the GRP tech heads, Is the standard (non tuned) .21 engine with the silver head, just a newer version of the original BX21A Ninja?

http://www.carolinasrc.com/webstore/...dproduct=10021

If not, and anyone knows, how ould compare to the older ninja?

Thanks guys

turboxrayt1fk05 11-01-2008 12:47 AM

that is their lower or cheaper version of the .21 tuned .

maximugen 11-02-2008 01:32 AM

Okay, so nothing like a ninja bx?

Lol sorry, i know little about the GRP's, and was told that the Tuned, is just a slightly different version of the MRT Ninja's, so i put 2 and 2 together, and gathered the stock .21 might be similar to the Ninja

jamminbce 11-08-2008 09:28 AM

grp 28

hi just purchased a tuned 28 used. 3 questions i have: im looking for best pipe through the whole powerband. ofna 086 maybe. 2nd question is will os carb work on this engine with success. 3rd question is im eyeing a set of carb restrictors for go tech will these work on grp carb, i know they fit os carb.

tony montana 11-15-2008 10:43 AM

well I got my grp tuned running farily well. I put a o.s. p8 plug in it and now it runs pretty good and idles well. But my question is with the plug out of the engine I can turn the crank over fairly easy. Still has the pop sound to it when it goes to tdc, think its time for a new piston and sleeve

ABURTON 11-15-2008 04:55 PM

Tony, it may be ok. How does it feel with the plug in and does it idle good? Turn it to "almost" TDC and see if the compression leaks by.

Hey guys, I run the grp .21 with a 6mm restrictor, losi 2.0 and I have been amazed with runtime. At a fairly large track I was getting 13:20 most of all day.

I went to the sidewinder and was bumping up through the 1o minute mains with no problems. Ran 11 minutes or more total and had fuel left.

What are your experiences? Even our locals easily go 9-10 minutes in buggy. I'm very impressed;)

tony montana 11-15-2008 05:02 PM

alan thanks for the reply, With the plug in it is alot better, but I can turn the flywheel over by hand, not super free but with some effort. it idles fine since I but a o.s. p8 plug in it. The p8 is a very cold plug also. I wanna put a p3 in it. How will i know if compression is leaking at almost tdc? I know a couple of losi sponsered guys that use the 6mm restrictor and love it. I was thinkg of buying it to improve runtime as well

ABURTON 11-16-2008 12:01 PM

ok lets see if I can describe this method....

hold the engine by the flywheel in your right hand at TDC, with the head pointing "almost" straight out see if it will hold itself up or how quickly it "flops" past TDC. That should show you if it's leaking by quickly.

Make sense?

Djballen 11-16-2008 04:10 PM

I havent gotten my motor yet but what carb restrictor come with it from the factory? I was going to order a set but wasnt sure what set I needed to get. Should I get the (5.0 5.5 6.0) or the (6.5 7.0 7.5). Burton you know the style track I run on here in central AL. I was leaning towards the 6.0 down set. And does anyone know if the Go Tech restrictors work?

ABURTON 11-16-2008 04:32 PM

john, did you get the promo kit or just the engine? I think my last engine came with all the restrictors in the box. But, you want the 6mm. It will have awesome power and runtime and sooooo smooth.

I'll be glad to break it in for you no charge, just get it to me.

I let full throttle bmoney run mine last weekend. You need to ask him what he thought about it. You would not believe how well he did.

the promo kit comes with the restrictor you need. it comes with a 6.0 , 7.0 ,and a 8.0 you will absolutely love this engine before i got mine the most run time i ever had was 7 1/2 min. tops you know you've pitted for me now i can get 9 and on a good day 10 min

captain america 11-18-2008 04:34 PM

Apologies in advance since my question is ever-so-slightly off-topic:

does anyone know where I can get any of the GRP clothing? Their winter jackets look awesome but after hours of scouring the net, I can't for the life of me find anyone that carries it. The folks at GRP Italy were of no real help either
