Ok guys... been a busy evening, plus it appears santa made another trip. I got a notice from my mailbox indicating a bunch of deliveries. Long story short, the prototypes are in. I've boxed them up and they are on their way to some of the team drivers. I truly wish I had gotten more, but we'll have to make due with the few we got for now.
Still... I couldnt help myself. I just HAD to take one apart and snap some photos. So without further adeau... DRUMROLL PLEASE.... (clicky) http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...h_IMAG0208.jpg |
Regarding the crank- I cant tell if it is coated or not, but it is indeed smoother than the TiN coated GX crank. Additionally, the conrod is still snug on the shaft, but it is not as tight as before. I did use the tool I bought from Rex to remove it though. It's simply the easiest way to remove the rod. I did reinstall it solely with the pressure from my thumb. Crank is indeed ramped with silicon, and the leading edge of the counterweight is... "sharpened" a bit, via CNC.
For the record... this is a 5+4 engine. That's 5 intake ports and 4 boost ports. There has been some speculation as to whether the two vertical ports between the sides of the sleeve are intake or boost ports. They are open at BDC, as are the two large ports on the side, plus the front intake port. All 5 of these ports are closed at TDC. The FOUR boost ports are at the base on the side, and two new ones are underneath the exhaust port. The new case is machined to take further advantage of these ports as well. I'm still figuring the aerodynamics of these new ports in my head, but I didnt get to look at it very long. The new machining on the side, provides more of a straight line (and more volume) between the side boost ports and the main side intake ports. Something that came as a surprise, the GXII is over 30g lighter than the GX, with a lower center of gravity. hope you guys enjoy the pics. |
Rex I want to buy one of those rod pulling thingy tools.Hook me up.

where can i get those from rex?:D...are those the "SPECIAL" clutch bearings or just radial thrust like you stated?
& Rex they are great bearing ay & if u use the lube u will get more out of them, i use the TKO "special" bearings for 10 lts & then put them into the young blokes buggy for a couple more lts. most damage to your clutch bearings is caused by bad landings of jumps, thusting the bearing forward or backwards along the crankshaft (hence the reason i use TKO "specials" as all my landings are bad :o) |

Rob yes it's the TKO "special" bearings you can get them from TKO direct or a-main,

trey, nice lookin motor, bet your eyes lite up when u opened the box.
u didn't happen to weigh both cases without the buttons & heads to see were the weight difference is (by the look of the 2 it's all in the cooling head) |

The ports under the exhaust are not boost ports but ports for lubricating/cooling the piston on the exhaust side (can get very hot there).
Nova uses this method aswell. |
