every one can bitch all they want about ebay. there was one guy on there that was selling parts for the 5.5 engines. rods, heads piston sets, blocks, heads buttons. I have never had a problem with him. Had more trouble getting go parts from the factory dealer here in u.s. Go engine parts are hard to come by here. Still are.

the diferences between 3 and 5 ports are big?

Go engines

I like these motors, I hope that more racers buy these motors, to find a cheaper cost on a damn good power plant. The rods that I have broke has been my fault. The motor I race now is a 3 port sport engine that was modes by RB MODS and it is a power engine, it out performs v-specs,rb concepts with no problems at all, I wish that I could get a little more mileage, but I am learning still on gas engines.

Believe it or not, that sport 3-port rips! I got a couple for testing the Massive Mods fuel, and gave them to some guys affiliated with the LHS here in San Antonio. The little booger is surprisingly fast! Qualified 3rd in sportsman last weekend.

By the way, I'm pretty impressed with the massive mods fuel. I'll have some post-run pics of the internals, after 2 gallons... hopefully after the weekend.

Now the 3 port sport I got I had to work on the low speed needle, I raced it at white house hobbies in Nashville tn, and when I got on the front straight the motor stopped pulling, it ran out of leggs at half way, so I Changed out the cluchbell to a 15 tooth bell , no luck. So I took out the lsn out and grinded off about .062 off the needle, then the little guy was able to walk on down the straightaway.
Now the 3 port sport is a turbo head motor and it still ripps after 2 gallons

Ruune 12-10-2009 08:28 AM

good to hear... though you shouldnt have to work on the LSN at all. The one we were running was still rich on the low end, and it was pulling on the straights.

by the way, talk to rick about your parts. He already has an order with me, and we can add what you need. I've got rebuild kits in stock, and have more cranks coming next week. Tons of conrods too.

How long is the straightaways?? I never had a motor to stop pulling, I even changed pipes, what should I have done?

yes, the 3 port that I run is a modded rippadiculous by rb mods. the low end is easy for me to drive. The 5ports I have are stock. They are in my opinion made more for truggy then buggy. all tho I do use one in my jammin x-2 buggy. I just need to use a different clutch setup. The 3 port is hooked to a dynamite 086 pipe and has never ran out of leg on a straight. The thing I like most about my 3 port is run times. 13-14 minutes using byrons gen 2 30% nitro. One thing about these engines from the 3-7 ports is the head shimming and carb tuning. they are all different. Even from engine to engine in the same group..like 2 5 ports.

su3zero 12-10-2009 09:49 AM

next year i'll start to race with losi buggy.
is the 3 ports better for me?

Man all I am getting is about 7 minutes at most on the a RB MODS 3 port sport. I have no restritors yet. I run 3 head shims in the motor and a .053 pipe.??

Ruune 12-10-2009 10:34 AM

The GX-3R and the Sport .21 2-port are completely different. For a buggy on midsize tracks, I would recommend the GX-5R.

I use a .002mm and a .001mm head shims. that gives me a total of .006mm for head clearance. Deck height is about.003mm. I also use the stock restrictor. I also highly rec. a 086 pipe[has more top then bottom] I am also using a 17 tooth clutch bell that came with the x-2 kit. But remember my engine is not the sport engine. It would be a gen 5.5. I see he is selling the new gx line. Depending on your driving skills[mine have improved] I would go with a stock gx-7 port for your buggy. You get the best of both worlds between the 3 and 5 port engines. And use the 3 port for tight tracks. I have a brand new 5port combo kit that I am not sure if I am going to run it yet or not. I really love my modded 3port,good bottom/great top! change pipes and reverse the power band a bit.[your 053 pipe]

Have you tried the 7 Port in a buggy ?? AWESOME.

We are talking stock GX motors straight out of the box here.
The 3 Port in a buggy is great, very smooth and easy to drive. Suits the smoother less aggressive driver, and is ideal for someone new to buggy racing.
The 5 Port is an animal. Too much for buggy in it's stock form IMO. Put one of these GX-5R's in a truggy and go have some fun - brilliant !!
The 7 Port is my favourite. It has enough bottom end for a truggy no problem.
On a big open track in a truggy it would be sweet. In the buggy is where this motor shines. If you are an experianced, or full on aggressive style driver then the 7 Port in the buggy is for you. Bottom end aplenty for a buggy, with mid and top end power that will blow you and the opposition clean away !!
I have one of our top drivers here using the GX-7R in his buggy. He has run JX Ninja and Nova +4 prior to the 7 Port, and reckons the GX-7R is the goods. He TQ'd at our last meeting with the motor only just run in.
Same guy runs the GX-5R in his truggy and is very impressed with the overall power of this motor.

So far I've personally run the GX-3R, the GX-5R and the MG-66. I'll be rotating these, along with the 7R in my losi buggy and truggy. Lots of fun times ahead!
