what pipes are everyone running on their gx series motors? im planing on running my 086 pipe... hopefully i get my 2 gx5r motors from Rex this week

The 086 would work ok, but to get the full potential out of the new motors you really need to run the 2072. This pipe is designed for these motors and works extremely well.

Do you have any results or info on what happened over there for the nats in nz ? couldnt make it over from aussie sorry but definatly tried too, damn work. :flaming: And what aussies went over ?

Hi frontrunner, all the results are on this web site

http://www.09nats.harewoodrc.com/Results/results.php

Zac Ryan and Jason Dyckhoff came over and were performing well, but both broke early in the final, leaving all the podiums to the kiwi boys ;)

I have a gen 5 7 port on a 2013 with the short LSN. After tuning the motor this weekend the LSN was almost one full turn out from flush and the HSN was 1 turn in from flush. Based on what I have read on here this seems in contradiction to others tuned settings. The motor is running great with plenty of smoke all through the powerband. Should I be concerned about this? My only thought is that maybe my idle gap is way off even though it doesnt appear to be. If I try and turn in the LSN it makes the idle go up dramatically. Oh it is running at around 230 and idleing all day.

Haven't used a short LSN for a while now but if it's running fine temps OK and smoking you could just leave it alone.BUT..If the HSN is too lean you will probably find temps climbing or lean bog once you try to do a number of high speed passes..opening the HSN and closing the LSN will make the idle speed/temps remain the same but will give you more fuel flow at higher throttle openings..try it ..get the motor up to temp and tear up a few WOT runs..if it gets hot or lean bogs then start again..I'm sure the base settings are flush/flush for the short needle same as for the long needles..

That LSN setting does seem a little odd. But like Giz says, if it's running good and idling all day - don't mess with it.
Generally speaking with the short LSN you will end up around 1 to 1.5 turns in on the HSN and 2 to 2.5 turns in on the LSN - BUT !!!! it's not a good idea to base your tune on turns in and turns out on other peoples motors. You don't know what fuel, pipe, restrictor etc they are running, or whether they are running on loose dirt, hard packed clay, grass. It all makes a difference.
For example - I have an older 7 Port which I run as a back up motor. It has been tweaked somewhat and has a short LSN fitted. When it is running spot on (and it kicks butt), the LSN is screwed in like 4 turns - totally different to my other two motors by a long way.
If it's haulin and has good smoke, idles well and is not running too hot - leave well alone and just enjoy it

bigmatt 11-10-2009 06:27 AM

I wonder if he set the idle gap with the carb restrictor in place?

matrixmike28 11-10-2009 09:05 AM

Thanks for the input guys. I am just going to leave it alone. I am about to change pipes anyway. The 2013 is way to punchy on the bottom for me even on the 7 port with a 6.5 in it.

I always set the idle gap with the restrictor out on go motors. I was given this motor because it needed a new P/S/R, all my other go motors have the long LSN but this one did not come with it. I had almost forgotten how to tune a short LSN type carb.

I also recommend the 2072. I was impressed, and its sounds cool too.

just my thoughts but when it comes to puipe selection on the Go techs i just dont think there is any other choice than the 2072 pipe its suited to the engine specificly and its on par with pricing maybe a little more then some pipes

That does seem wierd, but as you stated it runs fine !
If your happy leave it, but if your curios, as I also am;
When the engine gets up to temp, does it run on when back off the throttle ?
This would indicate a fat bottom hiding a wide idle gap.
you stated that if you lean on the LSN the idle rises, try this again just a little at a time untill it just seems to rise and try turning down the idle, does the idle drop ? If not, stop, If so, keep going only in small incriments untill the idle gap reduction doesn't reduse the idle, this indicates you'v gone too far.
Richen the LSN about 1/2 a turn and turn up the idle again untill at a point where engine can keep running.

PS; this is done while engine is at full temperature.

Once you have done this and you seem to lose power or lean bog, try richening the HSN untill this is fixed, the reason being that your old LSN fat setting would have hiden a lean HSN setting.

I hope I made sence, I'm hopeless at trying to explain on line. LOL.

Dang Lucky ! :(

I have my GX engines........but I'm 5 hours from any indoor facility, winters in Wisconsin bite when it comes to nitro. :(

No you made perfect sence. I was thinking of trying this already. I always thought that if it kept reving it was lean on the bottom. What do I know though my tuning skills are middle of the road at very best. thanks for the info

its all a learning curve mate , i too had the same problem a while ago when i was rather new to tuning the Gotech engines with the long LSP needle , Flanno you made perfect sense mate

Thanks Matt, I'm glad someone understood it, LOL.

If it wasn't for me wanting to - trying to help out on forums, I wouldn't visit otherwise.

+ there are too many nice guy's on here (like Matty there) for me to stop visiting ;)

Let us know how you go Matrix.

There are plenty of guy's on these forums willing to help out.
If they can. :)
