Hi Guys
I would like to send a massive thank you to Mark at Massive Mods for all his help and support in helping me to come 3rd in the Penrith district nitro on road buggy championship,I have put in some photos(hopefully)of my buggy with the new mg66,but the buggy won the championship with a mm5 5 port, Was the fastest thing there, but I had trouble with setup. This ran over 13 rounds and points tallied over championship.
Thanks Mark, your the man

Forrestboy if you are talking stock and you are on small to med tracks 3 port for buggy and 5 port for truggy. Big flowing tracks 7 port for buggy and the .25 6 port race for truggy. That .25 is just a monster and truly is the best of both worlds, good runtime and monster power. Modded mills you can get which ever you want I have seen modded .21 3 ports in truggy screaming. The 1 thing with a Go mill, is you will never be hurting for power. Just find the clutch that it likes and your golden. Modded I like the 5 port and so far am loving my 3. to be honest I have never even seen a modded 7 port because its just an awesome performer in stock form. My buddy last year I talked him into getting the .25 modded for a Hyper st which is super heavy and that thing blew tires off and still got 8:30 mins with an 086.

What shim do you use? I'd like to try this mod - I feel my 5p is lacking on top end - even with a 2072. I have some extra head shims but I don't think they'd fit under the sleeve...can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I make my own on a lathe, usually out of aluminum. I had some cut out of stainless on a laser.

The new GX's haven't quite made it into most of the stores as yet. I know there is a US shipment coming though. Best idea would be to contact Massive Mods via his web site. If anyone will know delivery times for various agents around the world, it will be him I would think. he may even have some lurking in stock already.

The A-Main link is the older Gen 5 or Gen 5.5 model. If your going for a new motor you may as well have the latest and get a GX.

I have done more testing with the 2072 on my 7 port. Fiddled with the carb, plug and tune a bit, and I would have to say now that the 2072 does perform better than the 2047 with long header on my 7 Port (sorry Adrian).

hey no worries grizz we all have our favorites, but just 1 thing to take into consideration is that both you and Matt are running modded 7's not stockers, also carbs clutches diffs etc all make a slight difference :D

I thought you would pop up with a reply there mate :)
Yeah - I spent a lot of time last Sunday running timed heats at the track, and tried both pipes. The 2072 did seem to have the edge on my 7 Port.
The 7 only has some mild sleeve work by Massive and the Gen 5.5 crank, but it could well be enough to make a difference.
The first time I tried the 2072 on the 7 Port I didn't like it that much, but I had the flu and was having a bad hair day (if that's possible when your bald :D ), so I decided to give it another try, and was pleasantly surpried.

How is that lightweight stealth X Ray for the Nats coming along ???

mattwoodcraft 08-19-2009 03:21 AM

good one grizz bad hair day or umm wax choice
would it make much of a differance if the motors are moded or not , i know what you are saying i certainly have not done any testing on a stock motor ? i wonder what the differance would be

Ha ha - yeah, I stopped having bad hair days about 25 years ago. It's hard to have any major hiccups when all you go to the barber for is a No1 trimmer all over :) Cheap though, plus the money I save on hair gel I can spend on nitro !!!
I'm pretty sure sleeve mods etc do have an effect how a certain pipe will work on a motor. Just a tiny change on a needle setting, or just adding or removing a .2mm head shim can make a huge difference on these micro motors. Doing a bit of dremmel work on the sleeve is probably quite a major when you look at it in that context. I know that the 2047 combo works a treat on Retro's standard 7 Port - because he keeps coming past me all the time when we are racing :D, but I think that's more to do with his driving skill level compared to mine

ONE MG66 IN MY STICKY LITTLE PAWS..................YAHOO!

shame I still don't have a working steering servo..but I do have a new super torque truggy starter box so I guess it's the 3kg plastic gear analog servo for a day or two...

course the moment I go through the bother of fitting it my bloody servo gearset will arrive!:flaming:

I am curious as to wether they have taken all that metal pinch out of the 5 and 7 port break in wise on the GX's. I know that this was something being thrown around. I will say that when I just about a month and a half ago when I broke my gen 5.5 3 port in that bump box breaking pinch wasnt there. I heated it up to about 160 and it started right up. It only got stuck up top 1 time. But that is the 3 port I know they have always been easier than the 5 and 7 to break. They may have done this on the 5.5's I just didnt hear anything about it. I know I want a GX 5 port and I think I will run this 1 stock. I have never had a race mill stock and want to show that they dont need modded. I may have Rex do that thing that he was talking about that takes away the bottum end punch if I need to I will run it out of the box 1st.
