Thanks alot guys, ill def make use of your knowledge. ill be getting it tomorrow then. As recommended, i read the post on Massive mods' page about run-in/tuning and also the tuning bible on here. the tuning bible here on Rctech seems a bit more informative for a nitro noob like me, but the one on MMods seems easier...although not that informative - it only seems to explain what to to up to tank 2, so do i asume for the rest of the 4 litres of fuel that i rinse and repeat the tank1/tank2 procedure?

I have spent alot of money to buy this Uber buggy which i love (although its only been sitting dormant in any place where i can constantly look at it ). I really want to do this right from the get-go, since the RTR engines ran with were pathetic (prob due to inexperience ). Thats probably why i am buying a engine that is a bit cheaper as well, because i don't want to break the bank if i F it up:( ....not that im at all saying the go's arent good, ive seen alot of them race and i would love to join the club of guys who beat the O.S's and Novas .

I cant explain how many engine tuning/run-in post i have read to fully understand how nitro engines work, and i must say...after buggering up the RTR crap i FEEL i know what i did wrong and it seems way easier now.
Im just a bit worried about the Go's tuning as i read everywhere that they are a biaatch to tune. maybe it'll be easy for me since i have no real frame of reference like more experience racers:lol: :weird:.

thanx for your help

Re the formula 5000 ..I never really competed seriously I just used to live next to brands hatch race track and did a lot of track days on the bikes and we got to play around with the race cars in the club there..very quick and incredibly twitchy..You simply had to be smooth or eat dirt..I was a London bike courier for 15 years so I spent 12 hours a day riding/riding/riding..On a bike I was VERY quick indeed..

Re the serpent..been thinking of a road car myself..was offered a team magic g4 recently with an RB engine (excuse the language boys)and there is a proper tarmac circuit at a club not 10km away from my house but I just know I wouldn't be able to leave it standard and treat it as a toy..I would have to tweak it to get the best handling which costs money and my missus will tear my balls off if I get a 3rd R/C hobby..well technically a 4th as I have 2 almost identical buggies..:D

Was the same with the helicopter.started as a toy but it flew like a dog and I crashed it all the time which was expensive so I spent loads making it trick and admittedly it now flies perfect and I haven't crashed in ages so maybe it was a good investment longterm but it's funny how women just don't see that as worthwhile...Not like I can play the clothes/perfume/makeup card with my missus as she rarely buys the first and I don't think she has any of the other two..Damn..:flaming:

ON the positive side she just asked me to email her my Amain hobbies wishlist so she can sort out my birthday present..YAY...Hmmm well maybe I better edit the wishlist a bit..I can always add half the stuff back later.

no need to rinse the tank just let the engine cool at BDC so the piston doesn't pinch and go again..Just get the motor as hot as you can each time with a hairdryer or a paint gun (be careful these can melt shit) and leave the heat on a while so the crankcases warm up as well..I get mine as close to 100ºC as I can...for at least the first 12-15 tankfulls..

what did you get?

Just start both needles flush and go from there..You will probably find you need to go in around 1 turn on the LSN or it will just choke up and won't idle at all but everyone here will help..If you think you are doing something wrong ASK..even if it feels dumb..we were all noobs once..I still feel like one occasionally when I make a simple mistake..

sorry Gizmatron....i was replying on a post that was 3 page back already:blush:
i got the Xray 808 '09

thanx for the help. what i meant with rinse and repeat was basically just repeat the first to steps on MM (they explain up to tank 2) until its run in , not to literally rinse the tank.

i really appreciate your replies. and i am not proud , ill ask as much dumb questions and read up for hours just to avoid stuffing up my things. its an expensive hobby as you know, which i probably should't be in at the moment:D....but as they say...where theres a means theres a way...its like drugs...you need your fix or else:lol:

The G4 is a sweet car (I have one of those too ) Yeah, yeah I know, too many toys. The Serpent is strictly a thrash machine to scare my pants off when I'm bored. The G4+ with MR Ninja .12 I do race casually to keep the reactions good for off-road :D If you wanted to do a bit of circuit stuff that would be a great car and engine Giz. The G4 would be one of the most advanced and sweetly engineered 1/10 cars out there.
Sorry boys - finished with the on-road stuff now - promise, it will be GO's and dirt only from now on.

I have a G5 5PT and a G5.5 7PT and the only difference I noticed was the red colored GO symbol in the carb and that the G5.5 came with a set of restrictors with the engine.

mattwoodcraft 07-17-2009 01:20 PM

the only differances i could see viually are the logo on the carb to gen 5 black and gen 5.5 red

hay i sent the head over for you yesterday mate should get it next week

was to hard for my bro to do why i was away

Hey Grizz I expect you to be the 1st to tell us about the GO .12 on road mill when it comes out then LOL. I saw that in a mag somewhere a while back. It looked killer nice gold head on it. Makes me want to dig through all my mags to find it but that would take me about a week.

Massive had a pic of that motor on his site a little while ago. It did look nice.
NO NO NO - No more $ beiing spent on on-road stuff. I must admit I do enjoy the speed and handling of the on-roaders as a pleasant diversion, but my heart lies strictly in the dirt :D To be honest the on road guys here are a little - well, strange  Their weirdness sort of filters through into the whole scene  They think of us nitro off-road guys as sort of blue collar rednecks - yep, that sounds like me :) The only on road racing I do is casual car park track stuff with a bunch of like minded off-road guys, who just like to race each other hard out, and have a few bourbon's on the side ;). The racing gets more exciting as the night wears on
It has helped my off road driving hand eye co-ordination though for sure.

malik 07-17-2009 04:18 PM

Well when that mill you got goes caput GO .12 LOL. I am strictly off road myself. I like both elec and nitro though. 10th scale offroad elec was my beginning in racing. it did give me an edge till I bought a truggy LOL.

Heh, don't worry about it bro, thanks a lot!!

jazjato 07-17-2009 05:19 PM

Guys,

looks like I need a new rod for my .25 6port. During inspection you can see fuel squish from one side of the brass sleeve to the other. Only a couple gallons on this mill as it was barely used last season and now 3 weeks this season. I never replaced it after the break in process.

Anyway wheres the best place to find a con rod? Being a .25 is it mill specific or is it the same rod from the .21's with just a bigger piston?

Malik I'm sure you'll jump in here I would of called but I know I've been anti social getting so wrapped up in the running of the track this year.

malik 07-17-2009 05:57 PM

Its the same as the race .21's. If you cant get 1 from Russell or on here from someone I have 1 thats used but in better condition than your describing. If you need it its yours just to get you through till you get 1 I wouldnt gamble too much with that 1. That .25 is just a bear though and I had no Idea you never changed the rod, I know you need 1. If Russ is out of stock check with 22racer. I got some pins for you too. YOur going to need to do the rod pin and clips its not mandatory but they are like 4 buks for the pin and clips why not be safe. I am going to grab a few rods myself just incase local guys need them.
