So I'm looking for a good final drive ratio for the 25.5. At least a starting point. I am thinking somewhere around a 3.4 but I do not know. Also, is timing allowed for the 25.5? I can't remember if that was changed this year or not. I'm sure I could look it up in the rules, but, I'm lazy!

Crazy,

Timing is allowed, and if you do decide to play with timing, look for a fdr in the low 3.4's and work down from there. Every car is different, so you'll need to find that sweet spot. I'm currently at a 3.33 with 45deg. of timing, that's also in a TC4.

Spilling your secrets, I see?

Now I know why I barely can't hang with you on the straight. My Scale Spec car (TC6.1) is currently @ 3.53:1 but, with a fan, still running cool enough that I'll go one step bigger on the flywheel, I mean pinion for the next race.

In case it helps other drivers: I couldn't make an FDR so low as 3.5:1 work in Scale Spec for the longest time. 3.6:1 or 3.7:1 worked better for me probably because it helped power through my (sloppy) cornering. Only when my driving improved and I could keep my corner speed better did my laps begin to be faster with 3.5:1.

Spilling secrets is how everyone gets faster! (ref. round 2.... )

You're definately right on the gearing. you have to keep that car moving, and moving quickly, to be able to use that gear. Otherwise you'll have a smelly motor that won't turn..... (ref. Phil, round 1.... )

You guys still kill me in the infield....however, having 100 extra grams of weight isn't helping matters much. (ref. TC4's are HEAVY.)

Have you tried softening your sides? I find that it lets the car roll way over.
Also, are you still using an R8 body?
Todd, I have firmed up to white sides, the blues CRCs seemed cranked down to get it smooth, so I went to whites, which seemed to smooth the car through corners. I am running an AMR.

So, I will run the magenta's again and go a lighter on the tube lube. 30k to 20K, try that for the first qual next time. Also, in the last 2 races my body has caught up on the tape, launching me...so I am going to add the bumper to stiffen the front of the body.

Thanks guys for the ideas.

Tracy

I start my day burning up motors then I set track records! LOL
A little over gearing even with a fan kills motors fast.
Last weekend was a great time hope the next one is just as close.

Don't tell anyone but try less timing and more gear...then previously posted. Indoor on carpet my 21.5 was geared at 2.9. Shhhhhhh.

Tried that, didn't work with the 25.5's, ask Phil. battled with it all last year when we were strapped for timing.
