Well, not the day I was hoping for but still a great time and I met some good people too (Eric McNiel and Jerry Gerue of Tekno and a number of other fantastic racers as well). Stirex, sorry about the poor pit service in the 2nd round bud but thanks for helping out for my main.

1st qualifier was like driving on ice; soft Catapults just werent working so I switched to soft Gridirons for the 2nd qualifier and they were much better (worth .6s/lap from the 1st qualifier) getting my lap times where they needed to be (though still about .5s off my fast laps for this track when it's dry). I was working on an easy run to get into the A but had 1 terrible lap (10s off my avg) and ended up qualing 2nd for the B.

The buggy was working well and I was pretty confident that I'd end up with the bump. Got off to a good start in the main with the leader and I pulling away from the pack. Moved up to 1st for a while and had the bump in the bag when I put together 4 or 5 very poor laps costing 20+ seconds and ended up finishing 4th :( It was a disappointing finish (pure driver error), I was really hoping there would be a pair of Teknos in the A but Stirex would have to represent, solo. Sucks seeing your fast lap, top 5, top 10, and top 15 better than the leader and still screwing it up. Consoling myself with a white Russian, things should be looking up in no time

On another note, my rash of broken clutch bells continued today as I broke a brand new one in practice (lost a single tooth). Got it replaced and the new one was perfect the rest of the day but that was 2 this week (1 Serpent and 1 Losi). Somehow managed to break a rear body mount in the main without a single blemish on the body, not sure how the heck I pulled that off (screw snapped too!). The only other notable was I ended up running lean on the bottom, not sure how I missed the tune that bad as it was perfect during warm up on the bench and initial laps but I guess it was better than a flame out.

Interesting that ur breaking that many bells. I've broke one and it was from a rock. I run vented serpent now but ran tekno, losi protek and Robinson racing losi style bells and hardened Robinson are great if u r breaking bells

You could tell the Serpent ate a rock but the Losi that let go yesterday looked fine. Was a quick $20, that was for sure.

Your track sounds like it puts a beating on cars.

It's pretty rough, no doubt. At night you'll see sparks fly pretty often.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention about the race was that the DE skid really changed the way the buggy jumped (I didnt change the ride height). I'll try raising it a bit this week but I dont care for it at all right now.

I've run the DE skid on my buggy since day one, and now I'm curious to see what it would be like without it. That said, our little home town track doesn't have any big jumps where I bottom out on the face before take off, so I'm not sure it would make a difference? Food for thought however, and I'll give it a go next time out.

Layout is being changed this week and Sik is making the new one. They seem to like large jumps, we'll see how the transitions are. The current layout has very steep faces with quick transitions so you bottom a lot.

Man, I wished I lived a little closer to all the big tracks down that way! With work and raising kids etc, it's too damn far away to hit the races that are 3 plus hours away any more. I do miss those days of racing MX all over So Cal back in the day when I had time and money to burn! The tracks are awfully tempting however...

Skids made jumping better or worse for you?

Hoese37 10-13-2014 12:27 AM

Skids don't belong on a buggy.

Why do you say that?

Sean Dickinson 10-13-2014 01:08 AM

They make the car bottom out too much. The car likes to donkey kick, drag more on the ground slowing you down, and raising the ride height changes the entire geometry of the car, not worth it. Learned my lesson over a year ago and have never run skid plates on neither buggy or truggy since.

DBL15 10-13-2014 03:52 AM

Never once had any issues with running APE skid plates on all my Tekno cars.

If you donkey kicking the jumps just because of a skid plate your set up is to sort to start with.

Each to there own but skid plates work and protect chassis from excess wear.

What settings do I have a make to have less on-power steering? Currently running diff 5k/5k/3k, rear engine, front hub outside, rear hub inside, 4.5 rear toe

Considerably worse as it affected the buggy on the face of the jump. It had a tendency to fly way nose down on the jumps with short and steep transitions (went all the way over on one occasion with full panic rev) and I believe it was catching ruts as well. Still running the same setup from before (27/27mm ride height). I assure you it wasnt the setup that was causing the problem, I've run well over 2 gallons of fuel on this layout and never had this issue (buggy has always jumped remarkably well). They layout has changed but I'll try it with and without the skid later this week to see if there is a difference but as it stands right now, I'd rather replace the chassis that run a skid that influences the setup and handling characteristics of the vehicle.

Ferrarieeeee, can you post a setup sheet of what you currently have?

Less on-power steering? Just telling us those few settings wont help us but if you could tell me what is happening to the car when you are on power than maybe we can help.

Is the rear breaking loose? Do you want to change the steering when entering or exiting the turn? Since everyone drives differently, simply saying "on-power" steering is hard to analyze because you may be someone that likes to be on-power thru the whole turn and drift(not advised) where as I prefer to break going into the turn and power on exit.
