Not running boots on the front shocks is alright on some tracks. It's the rear shocks that really need the protection. If you're running a dusty or muddy track you'll want boots on both front and rear shocks. Damaging the shock shaft isn't the big problem. The real problem is damaging your shock seals with dirt. The steel shock shaft can stand up to some gritty dirt, but when you get it into your shock seals, you can kiss them goodbye. I personally run the losi boots. They aren't the toughest in the world and they are expensive, but if you install them properly and be careful when you clean your shocks(Don't hit them with compressed air) they last pretty long. Balloons do work alright, but I've never been a fan of them. They don't last any longer and the fit certainly isn't as good. They will also blow up like a balloon:D if they get air trapped in them. |
I use water balloons and they work great. They keep the shock shaft clean and last longer than the losi ones. Also, you get 100 balloons for under $4.00 so you can change them whenever you want and not feel bad about it.
Check out this thread: http://www.rctech.net/forum/nitro-of...-boot-mod.html I took some pics and did small write up. |
On the HB buggy or truggy, the front shocks like to bind a little with the boots on. This is what Tessman claims is his reason for no boots.

Thanks Inferno. I searched the other day and couldn't find it. Tried again tonight and still couldn't. Where you subscribed to it?

I remember reading about these Kyosho boots which fit the losi and being a bit better quality.
I got a set in and they have really been worthwhile. Kyosho IF346-08 SHOCK BOOTS |

Many many pages back we talked about a 1700 Life battery that fits in the losi box. Does anybody remember which one it was?

both listed there are the same size...and they will fit but you have to mod your battery box lid for the hump pack.
