it won't turn

question guys,I'm sure it's been asked many times before but i couldn't find a prior post, my truck (RTR) won'rt turn worth a damn under power, off power it'll turn on a gnats ass, as soon as I hit the gas the ft end pushes badly. I have basically Drakes set up,I run on packed clay, use JC double D's, need your expert advice, thanks

If it's pushing badly, you may have your brake bias with to much front brakes, if they are locking up, and cannot rotate, you won't turn.

going into the turn is fine,if at midway thru the turn and on exit I want to accelerate it starts pushing,so if i want it to turn it I have to be off the gas(coasting/ no brake)

RTR with Drakes set up??? So you rebuilt the shocks with the correct pistons and oil? Did you put a 3 deg rear tow block in it or still running the 3.5 deg?

Check all the screws holding all your steering links, make sure they have not tightened up on you, check for binding front brakes, and brake linkage.

yeah it's an rtr but it's been redone, shock piston/oils,springs, diff fluids,12 deg caster blocks & alum spindles, 2deg toe/3AS on rear,K Hdz chasis braces and top plate, don't have V2 shock towers or TFT chassis, like I said, followed his set up sheet best I could.

steering linkage is nice & free, no binding, with power off it'll turn on a dime & give 9 cent back, when power is on it's having issues.

Try 3deg toe in the back and get a short steering ackerman. The ackerman will help it turn better. It did for me. Also make sure your servo saver isn't too loose if you haven't checked it already. If you need a short ackerman pm me your address and I'll mail you one.

yes servo saver is tight, I'll have to get the 3/3 rear plate' would a heavier/softer sway bar ft or rear help any?

i dont own, a 2.0 t i have a 1.0 t but i do think 3 degress toe in on the rear will help espially when your on power.

like steve said, you can try the short steering rack you might like it i dint car for it too, much it was to touchy on my 1.0 t, i dont know how it is on the 2.0 t you can change the bump steer to make it smoother.

rotarynut : 3/3 is what, i used i whould try that and as for the rear sway bar try the silver one thats the thinnest for the rear and it will give you more rear end grip. as for the front i never changed that so i dont know.

3/3 meaning- 3 toe/3 antisquat, I was thinking also the 12 deg spindle supp might'a help me steady the truck @ higher speeds but sacrificing @ slower speeds, I'll have to to try the short ackerman to try & counteract it.

yup 3 toe/3 anti, i dont know about the 12 deg spindles ive never tried them
as for the, short ackerman rack like i said you might like it if its too touchy mess with the bump steer just flip the steering tie rods.

rotarynut 08-24-2010 10:06 PM

what do you think, 3toe/ 4 antisquat, too radical? 4AS would help keep ft end planted under power, right?

More toe in the rear will do everything to lock the rear end up, so your going backwards with 3 degrees toe in the rear. Double check your servo saver and thread lock it, it might be loose. Also try playing with roll centers and use as short of a link you can in the rear, and more negative camber. A trick I did on my truggy was to remove the front sway bar or have a lot of slop where the front gearbox is so the sway bar wouldn't have as big of an effect.

They don't make the silver sway bars anymore, with the 2.0's they laser etched the size onto the sway bar.

yea i think, that would be too much yes more antisquat will give you more foward tracton. under power
