Aaron, have you ran it it enough to tell if it is going to hold up better? Was thinking about trying that also.

I looked at my worn losi R&P, and can see where the failure is. It's almost like the losi pinion doesn't properly fit the ring gear. Like it only contacts a small part of the ring. Anyway I am hoping the Xray mod will solve all issues. I will keep you guys informed.

I switched back to the old rear gearbox after toasting my ring and pinion. I never had this problem with the original 8T. Even after shimming the 2.0 properly and checking it often I still lost a R&P.

Man that is sweet looking. I just picked up a few pieces of lexan. Hopefully i can pull it off. lol.
When i made my first set of longer ones out of a flat peice of lexen they hit the body on full compression. so make sure that you put the body on and then trim the guards away until they no longer hit what i found works better was a curved bit of lexen. its hard to see in those photos, but mine curve back towards the camber link. so when i compress my suspension they slide up into the cut out for the camber link on the body I hope that makes sence, good luck |

Waiting to hear back on this one also.

I ended up using the Mugen 6T arm guards because they are curved and dont hit the body. I had to drill another hole in the arm thats all.

I will definetly let everybody know how it goes. I am going run the 1.0 gearbox with the included plastice bearing holders and change out to the aluminum bearing holders when they get a little sloppy.
Note* The ring and pinion are only one race weekend old 8/07/09 and were replaced as a set. I do race every weekend sometimes twice a weekend. Yes we will Reggie, you going? |

Yeah, it's strange. If you look at a pic of the Xray pinion you can see that it has a much larger contact patch, that should contact the WHOLE surface of the ring. We shall see I guess.

Do you have to mod the gear box for it to fit?
from what i understand yes....to allow for bigger bearings for the xray pinion. |
It sounds like a very difficult mod. If you get the depth wrong for the inner bearing then the ring and pinion won like up right. Being off a mm or 2 is all it takes to not get it right. I dunno there must be a better answer. I have had my truck since they came out in march and I have replaced the ring and pinion gear once. I don't think that's too bad prob 8 gallons or so.
