tix im not to sure but they have released differant crown wheels for the xray not pinions unless the new ones are differant

JAMMINKRAZY 08-22-2009 06:08 AM

The pinion is from the Xray XT8.

The ring and pinion are stripping, but that could be caused only by the pinion. If it is a fault in the ring gear, there really isn't much that can be done because of the backwards gear. You have to run the losi ring.

Matt, what brand clutchbells are you running. i have stripped out 3 of the new high endurance ones now. so i have reverted back to the old ones.
I remember you saying you were using a different brand. was it reckward or answer?

I use the Robinson bells with great success. They last forever and extend the life of clutch bearings. The fit is a lot more precise in the bearing races than the losi bells, which IMO is one reason for crappy bearing life in the losi bells.

im having great bearing life at the moment with the Plaig bearings that i run. they are super cheap and last forever.
check out this page for his bearings

im just wearing out the new style bells.

I've gone thru 2 losi high endurance bells, I think the looser mesh needed in the 2.0 eats them up. I have a ofna bell in now, will see how it holds up.

losi_racer 08-23-2009 03:06 PM

i wont use the high endurance bells. they keep breakin on me, the reg. one i havent had an issue.

i do have a question. just ordered a 8t 2.0 for my dad. do they still have the issues they did when they first came out? i ordered everything just in case wasnt sure

jmackani 08-23-2009 05:55 PM

My friend received the new 2.0 last week and it appears the issues are fixed and they are shipping with the new fuel pull and brake pads.

I had the same problem with the HD clutch bells. I have since started running Answer Clutch bells and they seem to last the longest of any bell I've tired. I strongly recommend giving them a try.:nod:

Well my test of using a new original 8T gearbox to see if the ring and pinion would last any longer did not last long at all. I am a decent racer of 13yrs and I managed to strip out another ring and pinion. The R&P was only two race days old!!!!!!
At todays races I must have counted about 5-10 8ight T 2.0 with the crunchies!!! I think there is a serious problem as of late with the quality and materials that Losi is selling us!:flaming

+1 on the robinson racing CB's I have been using them since the 1.0 with great success. The 2.0 CB's are horrible.

IDK what is up with the ring and pinion with the new 2.0. I have been through one set already and the truck is making that weird noise again. I am sure it is just a matter of time before the ring and pinion go again. I have seen many 2.0 T's making this strange noise when on power. It sounds like a metal whistle, thats the best I can explain it. I also changed the gearbox when I changed the ring and pinion. At first I thought this strange noise was from the smart diffs but I heard another truck doing the same thing and he was running stock diffs. Anyone else experience this metal whistle noise on power. I love this truck but man it seems to have some issues.

yea i hear it when i go down the stright idk what it is but i can garentee you its not the r/p

if you change the r/p you should buy a new case and r&p(set) not just the ring or pion... i put a small shim behing the pion and 3 shims onthe left and 1 on the right... its been good for the past 3 weekends....nock on wood
