At todays races I must have counted about 5-10 8ight T 2.0 with the crunchies!!! I think there is a serious problem as of late with the quality and materials that Losi is selling us!:flaming

THIS SEEMS VERY INTERESTING I CERTAINLY WOULD BE DIRECTING THIS THIS AND MAYBE ASKING A FEW OF THE TEAM DRIVERS FOR SURE , I PERSONNLEY HAVNT HAD THE ISSUE BUT IF THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE IN SOMETHING IT CERTAINLY WILL BE INTERESTING TO KNOW AS WE ALL MIGHT ENCOUNTER THIS PROBLEM SOONER OR LATER ...

im really starting to think that it's a 'cheap material' problem. i haven't had a problem with the rear diff yet. i ran the old aluminium inserts on the weekend in both the truggy and the buggy and they did'nt bother me all weekend.
but i did go through 2 of the new clutch bells on the truggy, and i put my origional 8 clutch bell on my buggy and had a spur gear go. i've never seen a spur go before a clutch bell. the clutch bell still looks like new but the spur is rooted. it was a brand new clutch bell out of the old old losi packaging that i bought ages ago and only opened on the weekend

i've noticed so much more wear on all the metal driveline parts since the 2.0 range came out. ive worn out axles, outdrives, driveshafts, clutch bells and now spurs twice as quick as the old car. maybe its simply cheap materials that are causing the problems in the new range

seems they fixed the plastics and dropped the ball on the metals

YES ITS A BIT OF A BOMB OUT FOR SURE , BUT I GUESS IF TTHIS CONTINUES IM SERIOCLY THINKING OF CHANGING THE BRANDS , I WILL CERTAINLY KNOW AFTER THE COMING WEEKEND MATE ,

Rear Diff Issues

I went thru two rear diffs in a couple of race weekends, I ran a new one this weekend with no problem, after a little of research and asking quesiotns here and there this is what i did and what i found out:

You have to replace the crown/pinion gear, bulkhead and inserts just to be on the safe side

Shimming is the "secret" as I was told by some team drivers, I went from running stock, to running a lot tighter till the point at the beginning it felt notchy until i ran a couple of tanks thru it, then re-check regularly and make sure u don't have to add more shims.

Hope this helps, I was on the brink of jumping ship, till I found out that it wasn't a Losi exclusive problem, (I saw a Mugen do it this weekend) I'm hoping the steps taken will make it last as long as it should without issues.

i might know someone. he ran my 2nd 2.0 on the weekend because trev didnt get the mugan parts in time. he loved the 2.0 and is thinking about jumping ship. how much would you want for it?

although you havent had any problems yet in the truggy have you. why would you get rid of it?

mattwoodcraft 08-24-2009 04:42 AM

i might go back to mugan mbx6t

tix with every thing i have the 8t inc smart diffs $450 its its in excellant condition let me know im home wednesday morning i will call you mate

Took my Smart Diffs out of mine, and couldn't believe that I was actually quicker without them. Horses for courses I guess, and they just ain't right for my local track.
Also had put the car back to factory settings - well, as near as you can do, when the car is sloppy is hell ( awaiting some new parts to freshen car up ).

At first, the off power steering was disappointing, and dropped the front diff down from 7k to 5k. This time the car had loads of off power steering. but was far too easy to loose the rear end.

On a suggestion, I took the end off one side of the roll bar, and the car was so much better in the turns, although needs something there.
I remember the earlier post of softening up the rear end, so fitted the white springs, and the car was different again. the rear end was so much more controllable, and if it did loose grip, it would slide controllably and not snap out as before. I've now ordered the 2.0mm sway bar, and can't wait to try it out with it fitted.
Only problem I had was the off power steering was too much, so will be reverting back to 7k, and as i've got a spare diff, will try and make some 6k up just in case ( from above - 7k not enough/5k too much )

Hopefully the sway bar will be here later this week, so I can go test up the track. as also want to try it with the shorter camber links also previously mentioned :)

Hi
how many people have the problems with the rear diff?
I am thinking of buying a 8T 2.0 but now, I am not so sure whether Mugen or Losi.
I really like the Losi, but I hate it if I must replace so many parts.

marccaracer 08-24-2009 10:09 AM

On my sixth gallon of fuel now and have changed the fluid and the bearings twice. Works great with no issues ever.

yea i hear it when i go down the stright idk what it is but i can garentee you its not the r/p

if you change the r/p you should buy a new case and r&p(set) not just the ring or pion... i put a small shim behing the pion and 3 shims onthe left and 1 on the right... its been good for the past 3 weekends....nock on wood

What shim are you using behind the pinion gear?

reggie l. 08-24-2009 12:15 PM

i think its the same size as what you use to shim the cb...i just use one 2 is too tight.

terzianator 08-24-2009 12:31 PM

I think its the quality. I had a front and rear pinion go out at the same time. Maybe I have bigger issues...
