I have not. I guess my next step is to check all of the diff internals. This is my second mt410 build. I only have a pack thru this truck. I pulled the front and rear again and now the front ring and pinion look to have some metal shavings present. There is no sided to side play, and the mesh seems to be good. I'm a bit lost. The answer seems to be shim the diff, but it doesn't need it.

update: I shimmed the front and rear diffs. 2 shims for the rear on the gear side and 1 shim for the front on the gear side. There is a very very minimal amount of play now. It still making the noise when I do a quick stab of the throttle. I have to be missing something...

I had that same 2200kv Hobbywing motor in my MT410 when I first got it. ...and, I too had lots of sounds that I thought were diff/driveline related. I was going nuts trying to pinpoint the problem. I finally figured out the noise was the almost brand new Hobbywing motor...I swapped to a different motor and everything was smooth. Do you have a different motor to try out in the truck?

I'll swap motors tomorrow and see what happens. I hope you're right. This is my first hobbywing combo so maybe i'm just not used to it. There were very small metal shavings in the grease on the front diff prior to shimming, but I can't see how the front would be skipping teeth. When it makes the noise it's usually on it's way to do a wheelie/back flip so there's not a huge load on the front wheels.

When I built my kit, all 3 diffs were super tight, so I didn't use any shims. I've read you need to go back in a few runs after a fresh build though and recheck for shimming. My front and rear diffs still feel tight but If I grab the outputs on either end of my center diff, I can wiggle them 0.5mm in every direction, and they slide in and out of the diff housing about 0.5mm, back and forth.

Is this a sign of needing to shim the diff, bad pinion bearings, neither, both?

If this isn't a sign of an issue with the diff shimming or the pinion bearings, what are signs of those things? Just wondering how I keep an eye out for this stuff so I can maintain it properly.

0.5mm on the center diff, don't worry about that.

I think shimming normally shows up in ring and pinion gears (where you have a 90 degree change of power direction), not pinion/spur, so it should only affect this trucks front and read diffs. I go by how much I can turn the pinion gear without it moving the ring gear, I try to minimize that as much as possible without getting to the point that I feel added drag in the assembly.

Awesome, thanks guys

Thanks to the guy that said fierce rc solutions was having a sale I got a MT410. I got a Tekno 15T pinion, Tekno aluminum servo horn, and Tekno mud guards. For the ESC and Motor I got the LRP ix8 and 2200 motor. Is the 15T gonna be good for 4s? I'm gonna wait on a body because I might already have one that fits. What servo should I get? I am thinking the savox 1230 but I would rather have one closer to $50. I already have a set of new Arrma nero tires for it. Can I have some help please with the rest of my stuff?

Thank you for your business. :)

What's up Tekno fans?

My mt410 kit is on the way across the world to meet me. My 1st choice was to run the hobbywing max8/2200 combo. Some experienced mt410 owners online suggested that will run too hot, and that I should run <2000kv to keep things cool.

Starting with 16T and proline mashers, what would be a good motor choice for the HW max 8 esc?

Are some of you running the 2200kv with big tires and no heat issues?

I'm pretty psyched to run what will possibly be the 1st and only Tekno RC in the country. Once I get up and running, I'll post some video.

Peace,

Mongol Pete

I spoke with Tekno directly a few months ago and they told me that HW combo with the 2200kv was a perfect fit along with Pro-Line Shockwaves/ Pro-Line Badlands 3.8" (30 Series)

A lower than 2200kv motor with thicker or longer can will provide more torque. I feel differance between a 2200kv and a 1730kv in terms of power with roughly the same gearing.

Has anyone installed the buggy body & wing on their MT instead of a truck body? I will be converting an EB48.2 to a MT410 and have a few spare buggy bodies and figure they will probably hold up longer than a truck body? If anyone else had done this please post up some pics please.

Well, I guess this will be my first 'serious' RC. I'm looking forward to experiencing my first build since Tamiya kits (Falcon&Midnight Pumpkin) from the 80s. Here is what is currently on its way to Mongolia (hurricane Irma permitting).

Tekno mt410 kit
Tekno 16T pinion
Futaba 3PV radio (FHSS)
Proline 1980 Chevy
Proline 3.8 mashers
MIP speed tips set
Tekno TB wrench 4/5mm
Tekno TB wrench 5.5/7mm
Tekno shock multi tool
Hudy 4x120mm arm reamer
Hobbywing max 8 esc/2200 motor
Savox 1270tg servo

I'll pick up a power screwdriver locally to match local voltage. I guess I'd better get a temp gun as well since I'm told that set up will run hot. I'll likely return or sell the mashers and run shockwaves. The other option would be to get a <2000kv (Goolrc maybe?) motor and run the mashers with that motor. I also will have an extra HW max 8 esc that I will either try to sell locally or return. I know I must have a problem because just having the extra 1/8 scale ESC got me thinking about which 1/8 scale kit I could put it into. Meanwhile, RCs #2 and #3 haven't even made it here yet.

Oh boy...

I'm thinking of getting either Shockwaves or Mashers, but having a hard time deciding which it should be. Any thoughts on how they compare?
