I don't think universal healthcare is bankrupting Europe. Our economy is already bankrupted, so it doesn't matter, that ship has already sailed, sunk, and been colonized by coral.

If the gov't can address the debt(not ever likely to happen in our lifetime) and redistribute taxing(also ain't happening), then they could make a workable healthcare system. You're right. $7 an hour hasnt been a livable wage since 05/06 maybe. You'd need at least $20 an hour now to get by. Lowering drug prices and doctor bills would absolutely have to happen regardless of universal healthcare or not. But it certainly needs to happen first for universal healthcare to even have chance.
