Me and my cousin just picked up some TT02Rs for some cheap parking lot racing action. The first couple runs were essentially stock with the addition of the Yeah Racing adjustable motor mount running 17.5 motors. I had some 64P pinions and spurs left over from another car so I threw in 81/47 gearing and things were much better (and it could probably use another couple teeth on the pinion).
My cousin, understandably, cannot let my car be so much faster than his so he will be changing gearing as well. The difference is he would like to stick with 48P gears for some added durability with the target ratio is something in the 4.3 FDR range. I tested 55/33 with some spare gears I had and they did not come close to meshing so I'm thinking something around 60/36 would work. Can anyone give me a 48P recommendation for a 4.3ish FDR that will fit? All you need to know right here Tamiya TT02 17.5 21.5 and VTA Blinky Gearing | The RC Racer |

I'm looking for gearing in 48P to get a FDR in that range to prevent buying gears that don't fit. Like I said, the first guess with 55/33 gearing did not come close to actually meshing. |

I read all that, it is very helpful when using 64P gears.

What gears fit on the tamiya high speed setup. I need to regear for the 17.5 and want to make sure I get a 64p that will fit

Cool I was thinking they would fit but wasn't sure the pictures I was seeing of them made me think twice about ordering right away.

be careful going to small with the gears, I originally bought a 77T spur and a 44T (64P) and the diameter of the motor prevented the gears from meshing, not enough adjustment travel. I then went to a 85T spur and a 51T pinion and that put me pretty much in the middle of the adjustment on the YR adjustable motor mount.
As long as you go with a spur around 85T (64P) you can cover a wide range of FDR's. Cheers, Jim |
That's where running wider-pitch gears comes in handy -- the teeth are taller as well as wider, so even if you can't get a *perfect* gear mesh due to limitations in the motor-mount adjustment, you can still get an *acceptable* gear mesh. 48-pitch (aka Mod 0.53) gear teeth are about 0.35mm taller than 64-pitch gear teeth, which means you can get away with having the motor positioned about 0.7mm further away from the spur gear than is ideal, and the gears will still mesh well enough to drive the car. If you can make the jump to Mod 0.6 without losing the ability to get the gear ratio you want, you can get closer to 1mm of leeway in the gear mesh.

This thing is a mess of tires right now. Hpi is not on my good list at the moment. can't find tires wheels are impossible to get. 🙁 Either way I got to run it a little bit. Running 82t spur and 49t pinion she scoots pretty good. Doesn't seem to turn very tightly. Guessing I'd have to put cvd's on the front to get better steering. I have new tires ordered and some mismatched wheels also coming that I'll just paint to make them match. Quick picture I snapped.

Rebuilt my TT02S with the white hardened chassis last night. Looking forward to see how much handling improves on carpet.
