Pretty underwhelming, but i kinda like it

What were you expecting? Graphite, carbon, and al parts everywhere? The TT line has always been geared more to the lower/mid market segment.

sidecarphil1 01-30-2013 06:57 AM

looks pretty nice , will hold off buying a TT01r type E then haha

TBH I am more excited over that 458 Italia body than the car itself. :D

Well, I was expecting at least steel dogbones, proper friction dampers and C-hub-type suspension.. TL-01 was also low cost and it had these basic things..

Some low-cost chassis with same or even lower price have FRP parts, aluminium motor holders and oil dampers... Why TT doesn't?

DarthRacer 02-01-2013 06:52 AM

If you convert the price listed on that German site, they say the price is $230.

sidecarphil1 02-01-2013 01:41 PM

but i read on the german website it is coming with a ball diff , just as we all swap back to gear diffs hahaha

No ball diffs, Diffs are carryover TT01.

More interesting is the shorter prop with longer front gear shaft.
Receiver box is a nice idea, but who will mount the ESC then above the Servo?
Not me for sure...;)

Nevertheless, very important car for Tamiya...

Matthias

Want to see the specs on tt02, specifically the weight comparing with tt01e. The chassis has rally/water resistant in mind plus lipo packs as well.

cartix 02-02-2013 05:29 AM

The Ferrari body is sweet!

valk 02-02-2013 10:02 AM

not bad for the low bux, but id probably get a sakura for $100, or xv01 for $200. wasnt impressed with the tt01 to work on, even if it is supposed to be a cheap entry level broad spectrum chassis. I do not understand buying low and spending a ton of money on upgrades when you can just buy the better car from the start.

buy it just for the fun limited mod class , we here have a TT01 class with little hop ups allowed and fixed gearing and that is the greatest class i have seen

this will be my next chassis if they bring out the R version and it is allowed in our TT01 class next winter ;-)

pranash07 02-08-2013 02:01 PM

The car is good, but they really need to start giving oil shocks with their kits.step screw need to be remove and ball joints supplied.decent low cost racer.

Yes , let get some sanity into the discussion. TT01 fanboys please look away now

My question, will the car actually come with bearings, not bushings
Whats up with that tamiya, it would cost tamiya maybe $5 to throw in a set of cheap bearings.
Plastic driveshaft ??, really, why not just make the car out of wood & cardboard. Its as if they really dont care. A alu shaft would cost Tamiya maybe 20c to make ??

TT01 has really been an overpriced throwback to 10 years ago.
Its honestly the sort car car you'd expect from a no-name Chinese company & sold on ebay for $50
TT02 :nothing of significance, overpriced, underspecced
Tamiya will make bucketloads of $$ on upgrades, thats why those common parts arent on the TT01 or TT02
Locally we have guys who end up spending $500++ on TT01 upgrades (yes) & still have a car that honestly isnt good for anything but puttering around a carpark for a bit of fun, Or drifting .

Toughest RC onroad ever made though.

1101 02-08-2013 03:15 PM

If this car didnt have the Tamiya name tag on it, it would be a joke.

lets be honest, if this car was a Henlong we'd be making jokes about it right now.

Airflow 02-08-2013 04:08 PM

Yeah I miss my TL01, I wish they updated it instead of the TT01. I think Tamiya's goal here is to build "easy to assemble" kit for like 9 years old upwards crowd.

mr lee 02-18-2013 11:08 PM

The was mention of the prop shaft being shorter in a previous post....

Anyway to back this up?

I really can't see Tamiya changing much as they would want most TT01 hop up parts to be compatible so they do not have to re-engineer new parts thus keeping their own manufacturing costs down. Just a thought!

cyanyde 02-18-2013 11:50 PM

Its 2013 and they're still using dynamites for power?... LOL

Dan 02-19-2013 01:53 AM

Does the stock drivetrain even handle brushless power?

Sith Lord 02-19-2013 02:09 AM

I don't see what all the fuss is about:confused:. It's a cheap as chips (for Tamiya) RTR designed to be sold to the masses. 99% of them will be run til something breaks, then thrown away. Last TT01 I bought, was just so I could get the body. Sold the chassis, so basically got the highly detailed body for free:lol::lol:

Get over it. Want something decent, then buy something decent. Everyone on this forum surely knows that.

The thing is its designed to be what it is with the expertise of one of the leading RC brands in the business. Its an all round chassis that will be a great base to start with in Onroad RC. It can race, drift and rally and most importantly, it will be reliable and strong. Its not going to compete with a sakura S or Spec-R S1, but out of all of the 3 chassis, the TT02 would be the last one to break.

Well even a stock TT01 with bushings works fine with a 9T ezrun, so looking at the stronger centre shaft etc I would assume it would be ok for bashing around with a mild brushless.

i hope it will..

redbarton 03-08-2013 09:05 AM

So, this chassis no longer has the fixed gearing of the TT-01? The pinion/spur mesh can be adjusted like every other on-road car on the market, finally?

Are you making a statement or asking a question?

I don't think so... You can see motor mount with fixed positions on this photo

danb1974 03-13-2013 03:05 AM

Aw c'mon. Bushings. Plastic shaft. Same crappy non-adjustable mega-slop steering. And so on. For "only" 170 euros which only includes kit, body, crap motor and esc. Sorry Tamiya, was expecting more.

For that money you can get a maverick strada rtr and I doubt it's crappier.

mr lee 04-22-2013 11:21 PM

Rmart were the first to have them in stock late last week......they are all sold out already!!! WOW must be the quickest sale of ten kits ever!!!

BoomBap 04-23-2013 12:53 AM

What would be the best chassis for under $200? I've come across TB02/TB03 but doesn't seem to be many hop ups for them. Sakura D3 CS sounds good has oil shocks etc

mr lee 04-24-2013 11:26 PM

Looking at the new bearing set for the TT02, it seems they have now changed the axle bearings to that of the more common 1050 as used on all other on-road platforms.

The drive train still uses the old TT01 bearing sizes, 1280 for the diffs and 1150 for the drive shaft.

Qatmix 05-09-2013 04:23 PM

I have one on order so will post my thoughts when it arrives :)

BoomBap I'd stay away from RCTech when it comes to drifting. Check out Driftmission or CSJunkies for drift info. To this day RCTech still doesn't have a formal section for RC drift.

Zaku808 05-14-2013 07:03 AM

yea i got one of the first run TT02's from RCmart and just got the bearing set for the TT02 i threw it all together and with the 8.5tune burshless its fun but i know the car its self is gonna die soon lol but looks like i gotta look out for a new driveshaft

mr lee 05-14-2013 11:36 PM

Looking at the Gear G-parts the bevel gears and cross joint is now carbon reinforced plastic and they have adopted the same configuration as the current high end gear diffs with 2 bigger outer gears and 4 small ones in the center.
The gear diff housings themselves look to be the same as the old cream coloured plastic ones as found on the TT01. Tamiya actually started to use the carbon reinforced diff housings on the last few outgoing TT01 kits and have dropped the cream ones altogether and only supply the carbon ones which use the same part number. So if you order a gear housing as a spare part and it comes cream then it is old stock!

With this in mind the old style metal bevel gears will fit and may be more durable, especially when running a low wind brushless system.
I can only assume that the plastic gears will be a little smoother and quieter....

Have you painted the Ferrari body yet Zaku808? Post a pic if you did, really want to see how tamiya handled the details on it. Looks great on the few pics I could find but they're all the same red one. Even though I still have three unpainted bodies I'm definitely picking one up when it's available on its own.

oh no i haven't painted it yet mostly because i can't paint rc bodies to save my life lol but the body is really nice (it would look better if someone else does it lol) and if i get around to it i want to try a midnight blue but i have to paint the light buckets since they're red so yea that is why everyone i know who have one have just been lazy and painted it red but for me i dont like the pre-cuts for the body post because i want to do the Velcro on the body

Qatmix 05-17-2013 01:02 AM

Mine arrived yesterday.. initial impressions is that there are lots of little tweaks that really have pushed this car way ahead of the TT01, looking forward to the build..

The body sure looks good as well :)

123789timothy 05-22-2013 08:28 PM

Just finished building my tt-02 and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Now mind you I have never heard of a single problem with tamiya kits but the fit and finish of this car is superb. Ran it on the stock 22 tooth spur and it was mildly fast no more then 25-30 kph avg. can't complain for a silver can. Quickly got bored and switched to a 9.5 turn thunderpower z3r run off of a duratrax de10 and a racers edge 6000mah 70c lipo.. Wow... I mean stock gearing 50-60 kph top speed and extreme acceleration that top speed was hit instantly. Now I have only run 2 pack through drifting around and what not so don't know how it will stand the test of time but it seems to handle the brushless power pretty well. If you are a bit hesitant on the 9.5 then 13.5 would work great and you can still gear up. Driving hard I got no significant increase in temp on the motor or esc. 8/10 for me price is a bit steep but eh it's tamiya so I am willing to fork up the extra cash

Qatmix 05-25-2013 10:00 AM

Hi Guys

I have done a build and Review of the TT02 on my Blog (Warning lots of pics)

http://www.thercracer.com/2013/05/ta...nd-review.html

Its much much improved over the TT01 and really is a great onroad chassis for a wide range of different onroad enthusiasts

Tomorrow I will be racing it at my club.. wish me luck!
