You have to tread a bit carefully here. Your conversions are, no doubt, correct on the wire diameter (gauge) but there are other factors that affect the relative "stiffness" of a coil spring. A biggie would be number of coils/pitch. The reason the Associated/Calandra springs have stiffness directly related to wire gauge is that they are all wound the same. A spring wound to a different number of coils over the same free length would not fit so easily within the listing.

right you are scottrik. i never thought about the pitch/# of winds. that would definfitely change the overall stiffness of the springs.

yup, more coils= more linear and less coils=more progressive.

Hi,

hm... I was thinking about motor springs... Sorry if that wasn't clear...

Cheers

I thought you were pretty clear since you quoted a statement regarding motor springs. In the US motor springs are usually refered to as light, medium, heavy or blue, green, red. Maybe someone knows the guage of the motor springs we use?

Trinity made the Spring Thing and then there was 1 other item used to measure spring tension but I can't think of the name of it.

FF07 1/12th

Here's a couple of pics of Jari Taskila's FF07 1/12th car (aka Flexi). I spoke with Jari earlier this evening, and he gave the go ahead to post a few pics of his design. A limited number of the cars have been around since before Cleveland, but more and more are finding there way to the track now. The car in the pics is one of Jari's earlier prototypes. I know he's made some refinements along the way.

The whole car is really slammed low, and the tweak plate is super functional. It's a thick chassied carpet warrior. I think there were about 8-10 FF07's in Omaha last weekend running in both the 19t and stock classes. 5 or 6 FF07's were in the 19t A-Main alone. Places 1-2-3 in 19t were taken by the FF07 (and 4 of the top 5). It's a very nice piece, and works very well.

Nice Job Jari !!

Keep your schedule open for next year. The Omaha track is awesome. If you do make it to Omaha, they'll be plenty of others to look for. My part in this deal is to help out with the "stress testing". :D You know that I'm a fan of the slapmaster too. I know Tom R. is rockin with his.

Slapmaster6000 03-02-2007 11:41 PM

Gotta help me out here... I am scheduled for this cassino thing in the middle of ND here next month. Should I be packin CA with some accelerator? Maybe a few pop rocks with some mountian dew? Im a bit skered. They race with tractors and stuff. Do I need to down load some Steve Earl and John Cash? maybe pick up a John Deer sponsor.

Now that just aint right.

Jari's put a lot of thought into the car, and he's doing the majority of work himself. The fit of the parts are the best of any 1/12 kit I've put together.
