my freshly painted speed 8 on my 12L3. Let me know what you think.

JimmyMac 09-22-2002 07:15 PM

Looks pretty Sweet! I still have yet to paint my body for my 12L3. Right now I'm running an old Kyosho body I ran back in the late 80's! Wish I could find another one!

nice, you going to come scratch it up this weekend? or are you saving it for the carpet?

HYDRAMATIC99 09-22-2002 09:48 PM

Mike, I think I may save it for carpet, but who knows. Maybe I should get a bloody knife for that! :)

What is a good place to start for gearing a 12L3, for about a 40x70 foot track?

darnold 09-22-2002 09:54 PM

kev- Great time this yesterday, your car is running well.

Robk- Your cars is really fast too. Did you go back to Venture today?

Juch's- what did you do today?

RC Nitro- List of 1/12th cars (in no order) Corrally 12G/M, Yokomo YRX 12 (Masami ed), Kawada, Associated 12L3, CRC Carpet Knife, CRC 6 pack, SpeedMerchant Rev.3, Trinity Switchblade Spashett 2002, Pro Tech "Lil dady"(?). Out of these i think if you run mod you will probably really like a Trinity, Associated or Yokomo. The Yokomo is kind of a mix between an Associated and Trinity. Associated is coming out with a new car supposedly within the next 6mos but who knows. The Kawada if it is still sold is a revised Associated. The Rev. 3 and Carpet Knife are awesome cars for stock and i've heard that the Rev. 3 will be getting some revisions but who knows? The six pack in its box stock form is kind of a cross between a Carpet Knife and an Associated but most people when they run mod with it simply take off the side springs and run the tweak screws ala L3 or Switchblade. The Pro-Tech is a unique design that uses ideas found on the Corrally, Switchbalde and L3. The Corrally 12M if i'm not mistaken (and i could be) is getting a few updates that were used at the World's this year. My favorite is the Trinity car.

LouisB- In low grip carpet situations i simply let the traction compond sit for about 30min and re-use the same rears several times. Whites do give a marked edge in traction but many people site that the traction goes away around the 6min mark which is why i stick with the Gray componds. If you were racing asphalt then Yokomo 35's or standard (Jaco, TRC) Pink dots would be the only way to go for the rears. BTW, Corrally use to make Gold and Silver dot tires with the Gold being the softer of the two and i suppose similar to a white dot while the silvers were i think would be similar to a gray dot. i think they are actually Yokomo rubber but not the Yokomo 35's that Masami ran at the Worlds this year which is suppose to be a gas tire.

Hydra- 64 pitch is normally used in 12th scale and for the size track you discribed try: Stock Motor = 29/100 with 1.90" rear tire. Modified Motor = what turn?? For modified motor gearing see some of the past post between 20-43.

Raffe- So how did the Yokomo body run and were its characteristics like you thought?

Petenis- Have you replaced the chassis and with what? i plan on being up there next Wed evening for Oktoberfast, will there be practice or will the track be closed for setup? Your brother said his Trinity is working much better how is he doing?

Everyone- For lots of setup, tire traction application, and build quality tips everyone new may want to revisit or see pages 19-43 of this thread because guys posted tons of stuff. Let us know if this stuff helps.

Yuk- grammar, spelling are ugly. Thanks to Juch's, Robk, Timmy H., and the rest of the gang with us running our toy cars i'm running on about 3hrs sleep and it's time to go to bed. LOL!!!!

newracer 09-22-2002 10:16 PM

I think you ment Pro Parts Junior.

Hydramatic99- I have been gearing my car around 28/96 when the tires are new.

RC Nitro 09-23-2002 03:22 AM

darnould: Thanks very much for the list. I will show this to my buds saturday. Not sure if we will run 4 or 6 cell. I want to run stock to start with, no mod motors :) Thanks again for the info.

practice starts at 8:00 a.m. thursday for OctoberFast, Wed, we are going the track setup and the final prep for the race. There may be a few factory guys hanging out working on their stuff.

LouisB 09-23-2002 07:57 AM

Thanks for the info darnold, I might order a set of silver and gold rears:)

Stevie 09-23-2002 02:51 PM

for Corally tyres,i use Gold rears with silver fronts, seems to be the most popular with Corally Drivers, gold rears & gold fronts are o.k has well,if you want more life out of your tyres then try silver rears, like i say the most popular for carpet is gold/silver rears with silver fronts.i think for out doors people use Green rear tyres,
Also if you check out the uk corally site, they have a part all about 1/12th corally tyres...
cheers
stevie

Tigger.....its was fun on saturday especialy when the kids were running and racing backwards on the track that was the best ever:rolleyes:. Anyway are you going to get a taxi now after driving my car:sneaky: ? Are you practicing anywhere this weekend?

TRL 09-23-2002 05:16 PM

brushes and springs

I was just wondering what brushes and springs to use for 1/12 scale mod 8- 10 turns?Im sure you need a light spring but how light to you need green, blue?

And what brushes does everyone use just a standard full quasar brush,or does anyone use cut brushes anymore?

thanks

darnold 09-23-2002 10:16 PM

Kev- Yeah, hmmm i had a fun time too and was talking to Rob about us all going up to Venture again this Saturday and practicing again. Concerning the TC i'm not looking at it for right now because of all of the stuff on my plate at the moment. However, maybe in Jan. i will get a used TC3 or Losi and play with it once a month but it wouldn't be more than that. Looks like we will have some mod 12th going throughout the year since Randy plans on going to mod around Jan. and Timmy may be doing some on the club level throughout the year along with Juch's. The guys that will be at Pat's race track also like to do mod so it may not be lonely this season for 12th mod, let's hope not.
