I'm not the best driver but have run my F103 with a 17.5 as practice to build my skills. I have also ran the car in an indoor tight carpet track and in both occasions it worked just fine. Previous posters said it right, 'you have to do what's best for your track and your members, F1 Mod, 17.5, 21.5 or 25.5.'

For the Tuning Haus Winter 2015-2016 season, we went with 25.5 motors. Any manufacture 25.5 (like most TC classes are). We ran at TQ RC Racing track in Chino (So Cal) that is 90' x 45' so back straight about 80' and the 25.5 motors are plenty quick enough and smoother to drive. End result, had 17 F1 cars at our last two rounds. The Tamiya track in Aliso Viejo (also So Cal) has a 100' long straight (this is the same track that the Reedy race was just run). For the TCS race, had an A and B main with 25.5 power (Reedy 25.5 is the spec motor for TCS this year). F1 cars were still plenty fast and the racing is even closer with the 25.5's. Now, if you have a track with 170' or longer straights, sounds more like an 1/8th scale track and yeah, even a 21.5 will seem slow at that big of a track.

Actually 21.5 on our 208' straight is fine. Gear up 4 teeth and we are good. Motors have enough tourque.

Not to mention difference in hot lap at Tamiya is .2 sec. between the 2 motors, with the same drivers.

We are running 25.5 on a 225' long gas car track. It's fine, and we are getting a solid heat every week. I'm sure 21.5 would be fine too. Whatever works.....

at jackson rc on a 140' straight 25.5 is plenty fast..

Actually equalled my quickest 21.5 times at Tamiya track with a 25.5 motor.

So, same driver, different motors = times.

Musta made up time somewhere cuz it was not on the straight

People keep on insisting that the 25.5 is either virtually as fast, or in this case literally as fast as a 21.5

So why not leave the motor choice open? Run what you want? Since it doesn't really matter.... Then the motor list problems go away.

I'd much rather keep on running el cheapo 21.5 motors than having to go out and buy the 'hot' 25.5 motor of the week.

Whats 'el cheapo'? I've been trying to update all my cars to BL (1 out of 3 so far) therefore I've been checking prices. Most are in the $90. price range. So, what is el cheapo as compared to motor of the week?

I get other guys 'hand me down' USGT motors as they chase the 'motor of the week' in that class. I've have them given to me for free, or sold to me really, really cheap. I've also run old Novak SS silver case 21.5's, non-timing adjustable motors that I can pick up for $10-$20 used. And won with them.

They work great in F1 because just about any 21.5 motor will have more than enough power to overpower the car on carpet, on just about any indoor track.

By that same logic, you could just run a cheapo 25.5 and be fine. Since it hardly makes a difference.

You're already running a spec 21.5 class, letting the rules evolve to 25.5 isn't any different. Keep the 21.5 handy and rebuilt for other tracks.

And force us to buy another motor, faster or not. It seems that we are causing additions expenses for those already running F1 FOR THE CHANCE of bringing in new competitors.

17,5T 2S is far from overpowered on carpet, maybe 13,5T is.
15,5T seems to be the sweet spot but almost no one makes them..
