Jumping back into the hobby and was hoping to find handling/durability comparisons between the b4.2 and the 22, but not having any luck. I realize this is the .2 thread and it will be biased as such, but thoughts from those who've driven both?

I have the alum bulkhead and all it does is snap arms like crazy. And I have never broken a bulkhead. The only parts I have ever broken are shock towers (mostly rear), ubraces, ball studs, front a-arms , plastic servo arms and I once broke a carbon servo saver.

A metal bulkhead's weight has a big effect on the steering should also be considered when using ......

Now I only drove the 4.2 last friday night and my only other experience with AE is an FT sc10 for like 3 months and the original rc10 stealth and 10T. So far the b4 is much easier to drive all around. A lot of guys in mod at Trackside drive them and are always fast but break stuff more often. Mostly front arms or uprights. |

I have had both. I got a 22 the first day they came out, and ran it for a little over a year. The car holds up really well and over the year did all the factory setups. For me the car was really hard to keep setup for a days racing as the track changed. One round the car would be perfect and the next round it would handle horrible. After a little over a year I sold my Losi stuff and went back to a B4. The B4 holds up just as well as the 22. The car stays way more consistent even when the track surface changes throughout a race day. At our track most everyone had the same complaint about the 22 and most have sold them and went back to the B4, or the RB6. I would go with the B4.2.

Man, with all of these quality issues I see people having, I feel really lucky that the only "issue" I had during my build was 2 sticky shock tower/shock bushings. A few minutes of working the shock back and forth to wear down the anodizing a bit and they were nice a free again. Well I did have to shave off a bit of flashing off the chassis around the front bulkhead to get the arms to swing free...but those are extremely minor issue's IMO.
This must be a result of being taken over by thunder tiger?? SMH. |
I picked up a used 22 for my daughter. She dove it last weekend and it will be a good car for her. The b4 is a great car, but mine is too aggressive foe her, she is only 8 year old. She also tends to clip pipes and my b4 has not yet proven to like the pipes much. I actually ran her 22 for one heat this weekend and pulled off my fastest lap ever on this layout and my 5 lap and 10 lap were slightly faster. But like people have said. Next week I might be really slow with it. We will see. I do not plan to sell my b4.

+1. I too got a 22 when they were first released and noticed that i had to keep chasing setups on it. It just wouldnt stay consistent from round to round. The B4 just works, period. I dont often change my setup very much and I know what the car is going to do.

I had a RB5 when they first came out....went back to the B4. Had a XXX CR....went back to the B4. Had a 22....went back to the B4. I think I see a trend....im just going to stick with this one. The problem is I try the latest and greatest thing and it turns out to be the not so greatest...at least to me.

The b4 platform is so easy to drive with very little tunning between tracks, the problem I see is a lot of guys make 2-4 changes at once.i tell people if you car is pretty good just leave it and drive it,after a few packs make once tweak at a time.i see way to many to people going backwards rather then just driving and getting some wheel time with your car

My first 2wd buggy was a 22. I ran it for a year and thought all buggies handled like it. Then one day for the heck of it I grabbed a buddies remote and took his b4 for a spin. Sold the 22 that night and been running a b4 since. Its much more predictable going from track to track like my Mugen 8th scale.
