Serpent 811E Buggy Thread
#4696
Today was my best day at the track yet! I had been running some heavier oil in the shocks, 500cst front 400cst rear and stock pistons. Then when I was checking out some of the other buggys last week I realized I was probably dampening too much. Switched to 350cst front 300cst rear and it was like night and day. I thought I was dialed in before, but I immediately noticed a big improvement and shaved 1-2sec off my lap times.
Anyone have trouble keeping the grub screws tight on the F/R pinions? Had them back off on me twice now. Luckily the bearing keeps it captive and it doesn't totally let loose. Just get some play in the coupling but I can still finish out the day. I think maybe there is some oil/grease residue in the threads keeping the loctite from setting up. I crank them down as tight as I can without stripping it out. I'm going to get some new grub screws and clean the coupling with a good solvent and see if that fixes it.
My original body is on it's last legs so I ordered one of the E-avenger style to try. Can I expect any difference in handling or mostly cosmetic? Seems like almost everyone is running the cab-forward bodies at my track.

Raven I am running the LRP Dynamic 8 2200kv with a 15T pinion. Haven't had any temp problems with motor or ESC. Ran Hobbywing SCT Pro and now RX8 Gen 2, both without fan, low or no timing, medium punch. This gearing has been working well for me.
I can make 15min on a pair of 5000mah packs, and only putting 2500-3000mah back into each pack on the charger. My track is smaller, so never really running wide open throttle, lots of acceleration and braking though. Shouldn't have any problem making 10min even on a bigger track with the 2100kv and 15T.

so I was looking at the XERUN-150A-SD and the tekin RX8 Gen2 esc and they look oh most the same size and I thought with modding the radio tray I think this could fit inwhat you guys think here are the size and all for both tell me what you think
XERUN-150A-SD
Size: 58mm(L) * 46.5mm(W) * 35mm(H).
Tekin RX8 Gen2
Dimensions: 38 x 55.8 x 35.5mm
so could I fit it to the buggy and truggy with buying a new radio tray

The RX8 is a great ESC. All my racing buddies are Tekin die-hards, so I figured I'd give one a try. I don't notice much difference from my Hobbywing SCT Pro except maybe a little cooler temps on the RX8. I have the settings (punch/brake/timing) all the same and they feel the same driving. The capacitors on my SCT Pro got smashed when someone hit me and it shorted out, no fault of the ESC. Both are good choices.
The main things I like better about the RX8 are the 7.4V BEC output, and that it has buttons so I can easily adjust settings without hooking up any card or USB link (though you do need that to set the BEC to 7.4V)

Holy huge thread, I think I've read 40 pages and my head is spinning.
I'm expecting mine to come in tomorrow, I read the above diff settings, as far as a baseline I have the v2 springs coming as well. What would be a good starting point for springs and oil for a smallish (21-23 sec lap) indoor clay, fairly smooth? Seems that there are a lot of different approaches and some setups are 1.0 etc. :\
