I'm heading to the track tonite. Gotta try out the "new and improved pinned slipper"

I'm tying 45F/40r, Yellow fronts/ blue rears, rcshox 2 stage pistons V1,garolite pads, 22mm RH.

I'll report back.
i can tell you now that 45/40 is way too high on the oils, its going to bounce all over the place. i had 45 in the front of mine but i had the comp drilled out to 1.2. anything over 35 in the rear is just going to lock up and you may even break the lower piston, remember that your pack comes from the pistons coming together......

Just tested the pinned out frontend...

HOLY SMOKES BATMAN!!

It gained SO MUCH acceleration!! It's almost unbelievable!

not to mention I've cut laptimes quite a lot due to the much higher on-power steering partially due to the front end pulling harder.

Easy to do in qualifying if you have skills. The chassis has pace.

In stock form, impossible to do with lapped traffic in front and a fast Losi behind and you have to make a move off the "optimal" line.

IMO all the changes we are trying to make to the truck make it easier to drive, and more consistent lap for lap. Pinning the decoupled slipper is a step in that direction. Basic chassis development stuff.

I can understand that the pinned front slipper disk is will improve on-power front grip. I am about to assemble my kit and plan to start with hthe garolite disk on the inside and the stock pad on the outside. Do you think this will provide good front grip?

And it's better under braking. And the chassis is noticeably less pitch sensitive front to rear. And you can now use all the motor. And you can turn the brakes up.

This might be the best $0.05 I ever spent in 21 years messing with RC cars.

Once you pin the front drive belt, I'm not a big fan of mixing pads since the slipper doesn't slip independently F/R anymore.

I would use the same pads across the slipper with the pin modification (no matter if you were using the basket or not). Once you get it adjusted properly, I'd expect the forward bite to be the same no matter which one you choose. IMO only difference between them is going to be how long they last before you have to do maintenance on them.

If users are going to leave the slipper decoupled, I'm certain everyone will find some magic cocktail of slipper pads that work best for them (we have a couple hundred pages of just that in this thread).

The guy you quoted didn't say he was going to pin his shaft...in fact, he insinuated the opposite... he was asking if running the better pad on the front would increase front grip.... his mindset being that "if pinning the front is the 'best' way, and I don't want to start drilling anything YET, would putting the higher grip pad for the front wheels and a lower grip pad for the rears accomplish a similar result"

At least, that's how I read it...and I think he's onto something...if you don't want to drill your top shaft....
