More research and I have to ask, what issues are there with this truck really. Most of the videos I have found show that driving skills of many of the people are not top level so watching Max Flurer, the Ryans, and some others show that this truck is performing well. I think the biggest thing seems to be that it is so different that anything else that it takes a while to get a set-up right and know what to change to get this truck to perform the best for you.

I think those that drive 4wd Buggy would like the slipper more. 8th scale drivers would want the center diff. I am starting to think that keeping the truck light and managing the weight balance is probably the most critical tuning item.

Since I won't be able to run my car until late June I will be researching every aspect of this truck to prepare for some major testing.

For those that are running light, how many mAH do you run in your batteries? I have two Reedy shorty packs 4000mAH. Is that enough for 5 min qualifiers?

I run the 4100 reedy, I can get about 10 to 11 minutes on a pack. Keep in mind I run a 540 2 pole motor. George, runs a 550 with the same pack with no problems. We run 6 min quals and mains. You won't have any problems with the 4000!

My cutoff with the REEDY shorty has been kicking in @ 9 1/2 min mark.

Out door would be less, maybe 8 min.

I'm at the track right now running me B4.

Oman !

My point ?

As perfect as my Sc 10 is (BTW, really is kinda fast ) :deathstar

The buggy makes it go even faster.:batman:

Tom, you should have no problems. Tracks and driving style obviously make a difference but here is my current setup and what I get. 2608.2g, RX8 with Pro4-4600 and either Reedy 4000 shorties or HVR 4000 shorties. The track is on the smaller side at roughly 80x110ft and is pretty loose. For the Pro4 class average fast laps are just under 24 seconds. Our qualifiers are 6min and the mains are 8min. I usually run four or so laps before the races starts and a one or two after the end of the race. With the extra laps and 8 minutes of racing my batteries typically take less that 3200 mA when I charge them. I have gone to 11 minutes and change on 4000 shorties before lipo shutoff when out practicing on my own.

Hope this helps.

Jason

Thanks for your insights. Wow...2608gms is really good. The ROAR specs are 2505gm. Did you add any weight? What is your weight balance?

For Shorty packs I noticed most are locating them transverse and forward. Any chance that a central mounting works even better? I have the my ESC on the right side so the center chassis area is free for whatever I want to do. Placing in along the center line would reduce chassis role but may require more added weight to balance out the chassis.

Once I get a chance I plan to get 4 scales so I can see what added weight I will need to add to get a 25/25/25/25 weight balance.

Tom, go to post 34060, you must have missed the picture that Cherry posted. Shows the shorty mounted inline. (not sure why the picture didn't come in the quote?)

Reedy 4100 65c Shorty

helps reduce weight & smoother body roll , better jumping & landings

*reduces weight of truck about 100 grams compared to saddle packs.
*use the Losi foam blocks , they fit just right...

Thanks. That looks good. I like that it uses the FT Saddle pack mounts.

May I ask what motor/turns are you running? I'm thinking about going the superlight route and want to run a 2 pole 540 if I do.

Diff Shim (Washer) Question

Hope some one can PLEASE help me out. I know the SC10 4x4 diff rebuild kit # 91007 SHOULD use the .5mm washers (shims) on each end of the outdrive sides under the pin. I figure .5mm is .19 (thousandths) correct ? I just got a NEW kit and the shims do not measure .19. Did I get an OLD obsolete kit ??
I'm confused
Please help !!

Wild Cherry 06-01-2013 11:49 AM

Ralph

Do not use the the .2 shim that use to go on the out drives .

Only use the .5 shim and place one under each sun gear.

Do you know what .5 is converted to in thousandths ? So I can make SURE I have the correct ones.
THANKS

If you have the latest rebuild kit the thicker shim for the sun gear is included .
The .5 has the biggest diameter and is thickest , the .2 shim that goes on the out drives is thinner & a smaller diameter .

Do not get confused with the smallest diameter .2 shims that only fit on the spider gears ..

again...

do not use the shim that is for the out drive cups, only use the larger & thicker shim under the sun gears .
