It seems some people use all of them installed while others only use some. When driving the truck it still seems pretty swirly on the straights when i gun the throttle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is some info that MantisWorx, the owner of RC Shox, posted about the center diff that may help as it compares to a VTS Slipper.

No its not even close. when a slipper slips you are losing power and acceleration no matter how it is set, which is why some will tell you that it seems like they are losing acceleration when the slipper is set "proper". With any differential it does just that , differentiates between the front/rear and left/right. Since there is no slippage full power is either going to the front, rear or a combination of the two. Now with that said if your pins/fluid are too light (too little pins, added by Cain) by nature the diff will send power to where it can go to via the easiest path. So as the weight transfers to the rear and the front gets light power will go towards the front.

This is why the V1 dif was so badass on loose tracks because when grip is low so much power goes to the front that the rear will not spin barely if at all. when the V1 dif was tried on high grip tracks you would lose acceleration because the rear tires would immediately gain grip forcing all the power to go to the front and the front wheels would "dif out". So those of you that were on this thread remember when Cam and I were testing and testing and testing to find the right combination of balls and pin location to allow the dif to adjust to these situations. Some see the dif as just a spur gear with holes in it and balls but trust me there is more to it than that. I honestly believe that an RCShox center dif with all pins will outperform any slipper setup on any track and any grip levels. Here is something to think about, having to run 30k front dif fluid is not optimum. It works but it is just a bandaid because of the slipper. By definition what does thick front dif fluid do?
  • push on entry
  • on power steering
If you swap out the slipper for a center dif and no other changes what happens? the truck will not turn and you are forced to try and get the rear to rotate via roll center! With a slipper the front and rear are locked so the truck is never really planted, its always "moving" around. With a center dif since the front and rear are seperate you get greater corner speed. Want to test this theory? take a slipper truck, turn the front wheels to lock and drive about 15 circles and you will see that the truck is not in the same place as it was when you started. do the same with a center dif and the truck will be in almost the same identical spot.

It has been proven that the slipper can obviously work but its a compromise. It has also been proven that a center dif can also work, in the end it just depends on preference. But a slipper will NEVER work good on loose conditions where as a center dif will work on both high bite and low grip conditions.

1) two stage pistons? I want to try these and see that MIP and RCShox both offer them. I had assumed that these get installed to allow for a firmer pack for the compression stroke for landings and softer extension for rough terrain. Is this correct? Which set of pistons would you recommend

I can say any the on rcshox pistons but I have two stage pistons that I made and mip piston the mip need a different setup but are consistency in a box lap times with two stage 30 31 29 31 and with mip 30 30 30 30
I run a rcshox v2 ball diff with a slite mod ss plates and no spring if you need a pro4 4600 I have one I need a buggy motor how do you like the rc8 e pm me off topic
Light weight is grate with mip

No prob. Feel free to make any changes you feel to it and please report back what you find. Getting more info on it from people using it can only make it better overall for everyone.

By the way, I don't recall but what all were the differences you had for it versus what you have in your truck on hand (diff versus vts, etc).

front end. shocks had 30w with 1.2 pistons, diff had 5000 i think middle hole on hub. tower was inner hole and arm outer hole. with the yellow sway bars. dog bones level. Rear shocks 30w with 1.2 piston, diff was 5000. middle hole on c hub and middle hole on tower. with blue sway bar. dog bones level. slipper is the vts4. what i ended up with in the front is 27.5w in the shocks in middle hole on the tower. outer on arm. blue sway bars,7000 in front diff. +1 on Camber. and the 3mm mod on tower for the rear i ended up with the 22.5w in the shock, 3000 diff, inner on tower, white sway bar, medium Cassie the camber was +1 , did the one mill mod in the rear at that the tower, c hob outer hole had to lengthen all camber and turn buckles. i ended up with the 3-3 block the kid broke the 3-2 block. i ran out of 5000 diff fluid. im gonna get that m2c block and try out your 3.5 toe in. and maybe a saddle pack also. this time put the right tires on i forgot to take off the stock road ones lol. . so there was some small changes in your set up but not big ones.

That's great to see what will be my home track soon. What is your set-up for Dirtburners? Slipper or ball diff? 8mm mod or not?

I would really like photo1151 to change his style and show the track videos from the driver's stand. It's really not easy to see the layout from his videos. I'm sure the driver's wouldn't mind.

This is from the drivers stand.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to go through the truck truck using the manual making sure I have lock tight where it needs to be and diff oil and so on. Thanks again.

2s Turnigy A-spec 5600mah saddle pack, RX8 and a pro4 4600kv. If you go through some of these posts you'll find everybody's setup.

A little off topic but, was that you yelling at the marshals?

King DORK 05-28-2013 07:37 PM

I was wondering the same thing. Looked like fine marshalling work to me. I'd be embarrassed.

This is the type of video that I feel really shows a track. A good GoPro head mounted camera so we can all follow your racing. Thanks for posting this link, Rippen and hope to meet you soon. A fellow SC10 4x4 in Losi territory would be great!!

Nice video Rippen! There are still several guys running SC10 4x4's at Dirtburners. I am one of them, but I'm pretty new to this. It would be great to be able to work with you guys on setups / ideas.

I used 2S, for that on the Sc10 4x4, I personally liked the Tekin Pro4 4000Kv motor on a small to medium track. On larger tracks I added in VERY little timing in the higher RPM ranges to get some top end speed (like 5 degrees).

I plan to try out the hobbywing 4000Kv motor here in a Tekno, from what I have seen, a team driver for Tekno was using it and in comparison to the Tekin Pro4 4600Kv I was using, he appeared to have more punch and we were geared about 1 tooth difference. Pretty powerful motor from what I have heard and runs cool. In the lighter sc10 4x4, should run really cool.

As for ESC, I personally use the Speed Passion GT2.0 Pro. Its small so it fits the SC10 4x4 well and works great with 540 4 pole, 550 2 pole motors. I have also tested it on a 550 4pole motor in my Tekno and it works, but I think to get the most out of the motor, you need something like an RX8 that can handle the higher amps.

As for batteries, really depends on what configuration you plan to do but if you are going to use a saddle or stick pack, give the IP batteries at promatch a look or the SMC ones. I feel for the money, you get a lot of bang for the buck as they do offer pretty good warranties too, promatch's are 1 year.

I personally use the Promatch IP 7200mah 80C batteries in my Tekno which is significantly heavier than the Sc10 4x4 with no issues.

I think they would be excellent in the sc10 4x4 or there saddle packs too.

Runtimes, I got about 13 minutes back with my heavy SC10 4x4 using promatchs older 5200mah 50C saddle packs, so I can imagine what you could get with the newer lipos.
