The reason to cut holes in the body is to control airflow, not turn your body into a painted dive brake!

Not an attack, just an observation. And FWIW I don't think the problem is the body, although there might be some gains to be had there also.

I don't think of it as "holes" as much as "vents".

The holes in Mantis's body I don't think will help airflow really.

I'm thinking a way needs to be figured out to vent a body to accelerate airflow through it rather than allow it to pocket up and lift the body.

The Losi IS an ebuggy. The SCTE is a carbon copy of the Losi 810 nitro buggy. Same exact parts. The only difference between the two cars is the SCTE bumpers and the chassis is a few MM longer on the SCTE. Shock towers, shocks, motor mounts, diff cases, interal gears, arms, EVERYTHING is straight from the 810 which is a ROAR legal 8th scale buggy in every category EXCEPT weight (it is too light). I converted one to a sub 6lb 8th scale electric.

The future of this class is going to be more ebuggy like setups. They just handle way better. Someone is making an Xray conversion for the 808. I was thinking of actually converting my Assoc. 8.2e to a 1/10 short course (it is just slightly too wide). There is a thread where someone coverted a Mugen MBX6.

heavyjeffd 02-09-2012 09:24 AM

I thought the 810 was too narrow to be run with 1/8th buggies? The RCPro series here considers it a 1/9th scale, they don't allow 810's.

Nope. it fits right into ROAR specs for 8th scale buggies except it is under the minimum weight. If you add about 6 ounces to it, it would be perfectly legal at ROAR nationals. It is only slightly smaller than a regular Losi 8. You can't tell the two apart unless you really look close (smaller shock bodies, slightly shorter and narrower). Every part is about 20% smaller than a Losi Eight.

The SCTE is just the 810 with a SCTE body on it which is why it drives so much better out of the box compared to the other cars.

I switched to the Assoc because the build quality on the SCTE is crap RTR quality.

If Assoc was smart, they would take the 8.2e and throw some slightly shorter arms on it so it isn't too wide and boom, they would dominate the 1/10 4wd scte class.

Cain 02-09-2012 09:34 AM

Hmm, I wonder. Does anyone think if the other chassis pieces were made of an alloy ala exotek that it may help get the weight up closer to a full SCTE, and possibly fix the issue.

As has been customary lately, Flame Suit On!

With what they probably have invested in the SC10 4x4, I think it would take a lot for them to do that. But if the other designs just whip up on the SC10 4x4, may be coming.

As a side note, saw a vid of a guys SC10 4x4 converted to a buggy form. Looked pretty good actually.

I am going to convert my 8.2e to an SC10 just to see how it performs. According to the specs, it will be a few mm too wide, but I doubt anyone would care locally as long as I run it on 2s with a Tekin Pro 4 motor. The SC8 bumpers and shock towers should drop right in. Length/weight will be fine but will be a few mm too wide.

I have a feeling it is going to open a can of ass whupping on the other cars even with my hack driving.

sm_bailey77 02-09-2012 09:48 AM

Just finished building mine. Should I take it easy or run it hard to begin with? This is my first belt drive.

Yeah, I unfortunately had both (the SCTE and 8ight 2.0). The 810 is quite a bit smaller and really doesn't share many parts with the 8ight. Nothing in the drive train, shocks, chassis, etc. are 8ight parts. The 810 actually just a Ten-T.

For some reason I thought the wheelbase or width was too short for ROAR/RCPro legality, I don't recall. Doesn't matter, I wouldn't run one anyway, junk. :P

Cool. Will you have a Tekno chassis setup on that as well?

In your opinion is there enough meat on the hexes that they could reduce how wide the hex was and still securely mount a wheel?

Back to the SC104x4 , Today appears to be the day. anyone got any tips when mounting a JR servo in the truck?

Will just run stock layout. The Pro4 fits the motor mount. Drop in a 2s pack and good to go. DE makes 17mm SCTE wheels so i will use those or the stock sc8 rims. I think you could shave a few mm off the wheel hex. The max width is 296mm and the 8.2e is 305mm.

I wish I could run a conversion here, none of the series will allow it. It's illegal.

It is kind of funny because if the Losi is legal, then any 8th scale conversion should be legal if it fits within the dimensions. Either the Losi is illegal or the rule makes no sense logically. But whatever.

Losi SCTE = Losi 810 = Losi Ten T. 98% of the parts are the same on all three cars.

Enjoying my sc10 though. Just wish they would hurry up with the new ackerman. My only complaint about the car is it is too twitchy and I am having a hard time keeping one shock piston from coming loose.
