you are talking about the dif case mod right? well i ordered bearings from avid but the ones i got were open cage so i just swapped them with the idler gear bearings since they are the same size. it wa a royal pain for me to machine so i only did the rear.
It is a bit of a PIA but it's well worth the trouble. One thing to keep in mind though is that if you are using an old set of outdrives the amount you may need to shim afterward will vary. The used ones will likely need more shims due to the malformation of the hole the pin goes into when you mount the outdrive back in the diff. I also added an additional paper seal when I put it back together and there has been no leaking and very little wobble. :) |

What's this crazy clicking sound
Yes I know about the clicker on the front of the car and it will click occasionally under heavy breaking. I do have it locked down. Kinda sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. I serviced my diffs the other day and every since then. When I accelerate my car makes this clicking sound under heavy acceleration. Also when I am coming out of right hand turns. When I get on the gas the car pulls to the right. i mean really pulls or rather the rear end comes around. Hower turning to the left no problems. If this was Nascar it would be the ticket. These problems started after I serviced my diffs Car set up: Tekin Rx8 Tekin 4.5 12t pinion 20000 front diff 5000 rear diff Ride height 25 front and Back with body on Slipper basket installed Tires Slicks http://www.ebay.com/itm/330628606762...84.m1423.l2649 |

The diff gears need replacing, the teeth are wearing down. You might get away with shimming them for a while but think about buying some new gears. If you do some looking around you can get a whole diff for $21.00 on e/bay

I think the aerodynamic effect of the body is having a greater effect due to the lighter weight than most of us are chalking up.
Yes the truck is lighter so it's more nimble, but the parachute of a body also has more lift. So, either we have to add more weight or remove more body maybe. Maybe I'll hack up and old practice body and do some testing, see how it turns out. right? http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/x...Cproroller.jpg |
I honestly don't know what it weighed, I did not weigh it and it's in pieces now being cleaned up to sell.
According to the Googles, the SCTE is 6.75lbs as a roller (no electronics or wheels). So that's quite a bit heavier, I'd guess it's upwards of 8lbs fully loaded. |

Yep.
I knew it was a lot heavier, it weighed more as a roller than my SC10 did complete. I could tell just moving one from the bench to the floor when I was swapping electronics. I'm going to add quite a bit of weight to the center of the chassis after I corner balance it. I may really try and get it over 7lbs. We shall see. :) Remember though, this is for the bigger outdoor stuff, I don't get to race much on small/tight 1/10th indoor clay (although I wish I did). What you raced on last week is what i race on every week, so i have to figure out something. All of the tracks around here are pretty much the same except Mikes is smoother .
I'm gonna try and figure out some sort of a weight kit I can add or remove. |

Right. Well you know I contend in both RCPro series, so you know all I'm racing on is big tracks outside of the Shortcourse Showdown.

WOW!!! i had no idea they were that heavy, basically the same as an E buggy, well no wonder they jump as they do. Maybe i need to machine some lead today:lol:

Mantis, do you think its possible to assume that the elimination of chassis flex has compunded the bad flyability and pitch control displayed in the air on extreme jumps for this truck?
|
Flex isn't a bad thing. Too stiff a truck will hammer and bounce all over the place.
I don't think any of the jumping problems with the SC10 are chassis-related really. I'm starting to think it's simply inertia (weight) vs. parachute effect (lift). Makes sense with all the comments about how it drives without the body. The SCTE feels pretty close to the same with or without the body except in really strong winds. |

Its not just my truck and its not just my setup. Flex is not going to effect anything once you are in the air. Only thing moving once airborn besides the truck as a whole, is the drivetrain.
Regardless, don't want to beat a dead horse as it sounds like you are fed up on this subject. Don't blame you though, as your initial post on that experience opened pandoras box. Be easy! |
