Coyote: John is one of the old guard of RC racing, he's been in it longer than most of been alive. I had the pleasure of racing with and seeing John at probably the best indoor clay track that will ever exist (RIP) The Clay Pit/Speedster Hobbies, in Cedar Park TX.

John's style is different. He is casually competitive. He is the definitive club racer. He's not one of the guys that travels to big races a lot and races on big tracks.

To be quite honest, the only reason I run this truck on big tracks is because I'm traveling to big races that are primarily nitro/electric 1/8th scale. Most are only running an SC class because so many people requested it. So clearly these tracks are made for 1/8th.

This in itself is what puts the AE truck at a disadvantage in comparison to a traditional 3 diff setup.

Now in tight/twisty indoor clay, I think the SC10 would spank the bejesus out of an SCTE. I know my SCTE felt like a sloppy pig on indoor clay, the AE on the other hand feels tight and nimble.

So I guess in a way you could say I'm using the wrong tool for the job. :D It is what it is though...

Maybe in the future AE will release another SC104x4 designed for bigger outdoor tracks that's a direct competitor for the SCTE and a traditional 3 diff design. They'd have all the bases covered then for 4wd SC. :)

That's is exactly what I was just thinking I bought a rtr sc10 and changed motor esc ect....added sway bars and everything else I thought I needed and on tight indoor tracks its does well against scte but outdoor im afraid im gonna b out gunned and since I run mostly large outdoor maybe its time to part ways w my sc10 and stick w my Losi Idk lol

wats up guys,
The other day while I was at the track I had been running suburbs on an indoor clay track and switched to a pair of caliber(just to try a knobby sort of tire). They were m2 compund and even with that tire in the front i noticed a giant differance compared to the suburbs on the front. Im going to be trying holeshot m3 next time. Anyone make the same realization I did with trying a knobbier front tire?

When I ran my 2x on an indoor clay track, my M4 holeshots were hooked up. Wishbones not so much. Have not run the 4x on an indoor clay track yet.

WOW I love the 4X4

I was able to get my new 4x4 on the track this weekend for some practice between rounds. WOW. Coming from blinky 2wd SC to this was awesome. First time I tried the quad and made it was really cool. I dont have a brace yet so i wasnt out to test the limits yet. Tires make such a huge difference(only thing I changed for testing). Gold bar codes worked best, the suburbs that came with truck worked ok with front almost bald(just pushed really bad). Panther switches all around just sucked. Not enough side bite in the rear. Next week gonna add the sway bars and a fresh set of barcodes. Whats the general rule for swaybars? Thick in front thin in the rear? Oh, running rx8 with a pro 4 4k, 60c batteries and basic setting all around. 15k front diff 7k rear. I love the idea of over shooting every jump. No such thing as too much power:sneaky:

I tend to stick with the Spring as far as the Sway. Most seem to be the same way.

(smaller spring rear, smaller sway rear)

Indoors I've been running HB Beams (pink) rear and JC Double Ds (green) up front. Beams on front gave too much side bite and DDs on the rear didn't give enough.

IMO, that tread style pairing is a good combo.

I have.... 20wt and 27.5 and i'm trying to hit close to 22.5. I know, it's dumb but I'm here now, and everyone's closed.

For those guys running the center diff and having problems controlling attitude in the air. Hold the truck in one hand, give it a stab of throttle, then hit full brake. Do the front and rear tires all stop at exactly the same time? If not, then that is most likely the problem.

To everybody with flight control problems- the rotation around the long axis when using throttle or brake is caused by the RATE of change of the rotating assemblies. Angular acceleration, or sometimes called precession.
The reason the Losi trucks are better at this is because they have more rotational mass to accelerate!

I say we plead with Marcus to give his machines a workout and make us some bearing-supported tungsten diffs!!!!

Marcus and friends- mad props on driving that track! I don't think I could even see that far!!!

The front and rear stop at the same time with the diff in, it feels no different tha with the slipper since there is no reason for any diff action to occur(neither the front nor rear is touching the ground:))

For those of you that have a center dif on order please do not PM me asking for an exact ETA. As stated on the item description they are a pre-order item and I am making them as fast as humanly possible. I can get them out within the 7-10 days in most cases. I dont have the time to look up every order and see exactly when it will be shipped, it just delays the process. Currently i am waiting on 1000 dif balls to arrive before the next shipment goes out and they are due to arrive on thursday. Sorry for the delay.

Also the V2 Cdif is months away from being released, i MAY be able to get the thrust assembly out first but not sure yet. All V1 Cdif components can be upgraded to V2. V2 sc10 pistons begin shipping out late this week, more info on them when they are done.

I just wanted to update you guys and let you know I got my truck on the track this weekend. All I can say is WOW!!!! So much of a difference coming from my 17.5 stock slash

The only couple things I noticed is that, I was running a turnigy 5000mah nano tech soft pack. In the battery tray where the seam is between the center and rear chassis plate on the outside corner. After a few runs actually punctured my lipo. I'm guessing its from the chassis flexing. I put a piece of thick plastic and bending it to protect the side of the battery. Anyone else have this issue??

Secondly I noticed the rear end would fish tail down the straight if I gave it too much throttle. Im running the rear 2.0mm sway bar, any suggestions?

Lastly I wanted to pick up a few spares to have on hand and wasn't sure what were the essentials. Here is my list and please let me know what are necessary.

Thanks in advance!!

Jconcepts STL Smactrac 4x4 SC A-amain video....

Sc10 4x4 TQ, followed by a X-ray conversion.

X-ray conversion looks dialed.....

I'm surprised they allowed conversions in a race like that. Most RCPro and ROAR sanctioned events strictly forbid them. I guess it wasn't a sanctioned race.

I believe it was a roar sanctioned event, it was the JConcepts Indoor Winter Nationals 4wd Open Short Course class, with an XSCT winning it . The trend follows as this, a car producer just has to say the chassis is 1/10 scale. It doesnt matter if the truck shares 1/8 parts. Its all in the name. It seems not to matter what the parts came off of as long as the new chassis has the right name, i.e. 1/10 scale.:(:(:(

heavyjeffd 02-07-2012 08:23 AM

I know Wes pretty well, it's an XRay 808 conversion to an SC.

Regardless of what it's advertised as, it's an XRay 808 with an SC body on it.
