For those that run the exotek....what is the consensus. Vital? Run it with saddles and no cross brace? Is it only for high grip, high traction, or for all tracks?

OK, now I have discovered the slipper problems. Rebar tires and a pro4 4600. Major slippage and high motor temps. I put 2 HD pads and bottomed out the spring. And put the pin back in the top shaft. The truck was running better, speeds, and temps pretty good. Then....something inside the rear tranny went south. About to tear it down but I bet its the idler gear. So, I have two questions:
1) with the center diff / basket / maxipads - when we limit the tranny's ability to slip a bit, is the internal damage going to be greater? One purpose of the slipper is to absorb some of the forces, right?
2) assuming I need to buy something non-stock to "fix" the slipper assembly, which direction should I go? -center ball diff or garodisk or clutch basket????

Thanks!

river , I use the heavy duty slipper pads with great success.

Don't ever lock the slipper nut down all the way .
You risk crushing the thrust bearing...

Most likely why your experiencing issues inside the
transmission now ....

Well it is definatly you idler gear. If you put the pin in the top shaft then bottomed out your spring then thats the promblem. With the pin you cannot tighten the slipper that much like your used to when not running the pin.

All the fixes work good just depends of what you want. The center diff will just transfer power to the end with less traction. the Garo disc require no mods to use. You can still adjust for some slip and they have LOADS more bite than the stock pads. Basket works good and you will need extra stock pads to use with it and mod your dust cover to clear the basket.

The center ball diff has no slipper adjustability, right?

I'm leaning towards the MTK basket with a mix of standard and HT pads to tune it.

Default Caught up

Finally made it to the end of this thread. It has taken me weeks lol.

To keep it "topic" related, what are the dangers of running wobbly outdrives? I am noticing the play in mine.

Hi all,

Been lurking around for a while....I've had my truck for 4 months or so and race it on anything from a loamy outdoor 1/8 scale style track to a tight indoor clay track and even oval racing (1/8 scale late model body mounted)

I've used alot of the good setup advice posted on this thread and have the truck handling pretty good....but always had problems with the slipper !! Well I finally broke down and got a pair of Garodisk plates and ran it for the first time last night. Holy S#*t it's a whole new truck !! Where before I could tell when the slipper was giving up during a race.... It would lose drive and I'd have trouble making some of the bigger jumps. Not a problem anymore...I could clear the triple with just a couple of foot run at it !!

So moral of the story is if you new guys buy one of these trucks, at the bare minimum go and get yourself a pair of Garodics and be done with it. Don't wait like I did.

I can't wait to get this thing on the oval.....I think there is going to be some people crying

Later, Roy

Congrats!

Well running wobbly outdrives will affect the handling of the vehicle, because chances are if they are wobbling then your diff oil is probably gone. Just tear the diffs apart and double shim each outdrive and it should help a little until we see how this bearing mod is going.

To keep up with this thread you have to check back 3 times a day! lol

So what now are the must have items to get the with vehicle?

I am figuring these:

1. Sway bars front and rear
2. Clutch basket or something similar
3. Aluminum hexes

Items that may still be needed (not sure)
1. RPM A-arms since the stock one flex too much
2. Chassis brace of some kind or exotek chassis
3. Inner body (in muddy conditions)

Anything else?

Who's underbody is better, AE or Jconcepts?

As for the saddle pack conversion, is the concensus that this is a must have item or are stick pack setups still good?

10K & 7K diff fluid

32.5 weight ft oil & 30w back oil

Ae B-44 saddle pack brace , straps & posts

IMO I would go with

1. Sway bars front and rear
2. Aluminum Hexs
3. RPM A arms front and rear
4. FT Spring Kit
5. MTK Clutch Basket
6. HD AE pads or Garodics
7. Get the pop. tires that everyone is useing at your track

Then op parts would be IMO

1. Chassis brace of some kind or exotek chassis
2. inner body (muddy conditions)
3. Food and Drinks lol
