You'll know you're overgeared when the motor feels like it has no power in the middle. Good punch and good top end but nothing in the middle. It's funny but you don't lose all that much top end when you gear down (to a point).
With the 5.5 I was gearing at a 1.35 to 1.40 rollout in 12th. It's about like a good 10 turn or maybe even a 9 turn. It's hard to compare though because the powerbands are so different.

Agreed-gear the 5800 untill the power band sucks butt. If you start low lke Unregistered suggests, then you get to feel the power band hit the sweet spot and then fall off HARD!

any body heard of the Novak 7.5 velocity motor? Its listed on my gear chart for the 4.5

Now the only thing for Novak to do, is to shorten those damn sensor wires.
I'd love to see if they could include a double ended plug cable. So that you could re-route the sensor wire sideways out of the endbell and not straight out.
I don't fancy having a crack at shortening those tiny teflon wires myself.
ouch...

I'm okay with a soldering iron, but i have to admit. i'm not exactly roaring to have a crack at those wires. They're much much smaller than i'm used to dealing with. Maybe it's wothwhile to take the car to a electronics store and trade a job for a couple of beers. LOL...
incidentally, have you run the 4.5 yet? Looks good...
