Are there any other gear diffs that will work in the F104 or is the Xray recommended.

Fenix makes a Metric Specific diff for Tamiya. Its of a more basic design.

Xray diff is the bomb! You'll have to fine tune it through the use of the right diff oil for track conditions, but if you save your pennies you can buy more than one and set one up for high grip and the other for low grip situations. Or if you run asphalt and carpet, you can set one up for each because the viscosity of oil run is very different. Tune to get maximum forward drive out of the corners without torque steering. You love how well you'll be able to get off the line on asphalt compared to a ball diff
If you're driving a car that doesn't have a 1/4 rear axle Exotek makes a bearing conversion ring with supplied 1/4" bearings. Check out post 14400 above for information. Xray diff as most know only available in 1/4" axle .

As Leester Stated the Xray Diff, is a step forward from the Fenix diff. Perhaps the only area where the Fenix is better is weight. But I think the tunability of the Xray, Coupled with the fact you can change the Spur without having to take the Diff apart is a bonus, not to mention fluid retention!

The crew cab truck has a 143 inch wheelbase and the Mercedes F1 car is over 146 inch wheelbase. That's 21 inches longer than an NHRA funny car's wheelbase!!! If I had not seen this, I'd never believe it.
Is it any wonder why I've struggled to come up with bodies that "look right". ?!?! Just sayin'.....

So much exit steering and forward drive.
And now that I have the carbon axle, WOW!
