Default smc lipos and the type-r

Has anyone tried the smc 28c 5000 lipo's in the type-r? Do they fit w/ the wires the way they are, or do i have to modify the case?

Along the same lines, has anyone tried the checkpoint/trackpower lipo's in the type-r?

The smc 5k is a very tight fit, you need to do some dremeling to the case near the rear bulkheads, or shave them....the 4k fit a lot easier.

I have seen trackpower used with just a very slight dremeling on the top deck where the plugs go in.

Thanks for the quick reply, trying to figure out which to go with. I like the idea of the checkpoint ones a little better as all i have to do is put some bullet connectors on my speedo and i'm good. The smc i think would involve a little more work, but they do have a higher c rating than the checkpoints. I'll see if i can borrow someone's checkpoint battery this weekend to see how they look.

Dont bother using the SMC 5000 packs on the Type R...the SMC4000 will fit much better, but the problem will be the wires. You have to put the pack in facing down, and the wires coming out on the right side of the chassis.

The TrakPower 4900 25C packs are a much better fit and have better power than SMC 4000 packs.

would you suggest the trakpower's higher c rating over the checkpoint's higher mah rating seeing as they have the same basic form factor (and apparently the same cells).

PRS no longer makes the adapter. Go back 5 pages or so and I posted a link to an Asian retailer that had the spur gear adapter/spur gear combo still for sale. Red might have been the only color they had left. Use Google to translate. Theyre pretty much extinct at this point, so good luck finding one!

Trakpower 4900mah 25C pack packs all the punch and power you need for 13.5 and 10.5, and really rips with MOD. It unloads 122amps, while the SMC4000 28c pack unloads 112amps. Trakpower 4900mah pack for the Losi Type R is a better choice power wise, plus its much more practical and cleaner set up, plus more run time.

The checkpoint 5400mah 20C can output 108amps, which is less than the SMC4000 and trakpower 4900 packs, which means in mod they will have a bit more punch and acceleration and get to top speed a bit quicker, assuming you're using the same motor...the rip and power of the trackpower is amazing...the trackpower will be a bit milder in accelerating and rip...but with the Checkpoint you get a bit better run time than with trackpower, and much better than SMC4000 pack, but that's about it.

For the price: the Trackpower is the better deal over all it seems like.

that really sucks...Why doesnt Losi make their won adapter, or make smaller Spur gears: 108,110,112, 116?

Thanks for the insight, i'll go hunt down one of these trackpower packs.

+1 for the Trakpower 4900. You will have to enlarge the access holes slightly since they're closer together than a Platinum, and remove about 3/4" of shrink off the very back and you're good to go. About the Checkpoint/Trakpower 5400 though, wasn't it determined that they used cheaper Enerland cells in those and they were only 16C, not 20C? Thats why they offered anyone who bought one of those a 4900 at half price.
